About this listen

Although this book is part of a trilogy, each book is a stand-alone story in its own right.

Charlotte Webster thought she was eloping with the love of her life. She did not expect it to be a ploy and a way to force her way to a marriage with a stranger, who wanted an innocent bride. Held in a house of ill repute, there is little time to act to try and escape and few options to consider.

Lord Halkyn is a peer much in demand, but an expert at avoiding marriage. He has always had fixed ideas on love-it causes too many problems to be worth the trouble. He did consider marriage to one lady once, but it would have been a business transaction. Unfortunately for him, the lady in question had wanted to marry for love and had refused him. Rather than ridicule her, his opinion of her increased and he began to wonder if there was something in the nonsense that was love after all.

When visiting his favorite house of ill repute, run by a Baron, he is accosted by a woman. He is begged for help in escaping from the house. Whether it was the real fear in her voice, or whether it was the devil in him, he helped her. Suddenly his life was to become far more complicated.

Protecting an innocent, employing the services of Bow Street and racing across country, all situations that he could never have anticipated when he was first sought out by Miss Charlotte Webster.

His life was never going to be the same again.

Extremely enjoyable

When I finished The Inconvenient Ward I thought that I had just read or listened to perfection in a book. But I was so very wrong.
I have just completed An Inconvenient Wife and this was another amazing experience. A beautiful and well-told story about two people discovering their love for each other while living with and learning from others as well as from their own experiences about life and love.
Again, Elizabeth Klett has done an outstanding job of narration.
A great product from two very talented artists.

I love this series so much!!!

Any additional comments?

The best part about a book series is when a book can be experienced as a standalone but then rewards the reader by continuing the storyline of earlier characters. This second book in the Inconvenient series delivers in spades on both counts!!

Charlotte was a wonderful new character and her relationship with Stephen was sweet, albeit challenging. The author managed to create an ingenious and unforgettable first meet for the two that kept you rooting for them at every turn.

Their relationship, or lack thereof, brought us back into the world of Elizabeth and Charles, the much loved duo from the first book. The two couples sparred well together and the mesh was just great storytelling!

I can't wait for book three!

Book 2 Proves Book 1 Not a Fluke

I really liked book 1 in this Trilogy, An Inconvenient Ward, and I am a bit surprised that I actually liked this one even better. This time, we had a little more intrigue, and I liked the further involvement of Bow Street and the introduction of a couple of characters I hope get to find some happy down the road. This is a great series.

Elizabeth Klett is wonderful and breathes such life into the characters. She makes the performance flow so beautifully that she makes it seem easy, but I know it is not, and I appreciate her talent so much.

Regency Love

Where does An Inconvenient Wife rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was pretty good, not the worst, far from it but not the best. I like a little bit more intimate scenes in my romance books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Stephen was my favorite, mainly because I love "watching" him fight falling in love. Also that he had a sense of honor.

Which character – as performed by Elizabeth Klett – was your favorite?

Stephen was my favorite. I loved the narration, the fact that it was not too British, brought the character to my mind like watching a movie.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, I loved the scenes during Charlotte's capture, her being thrown out of the coach, and Stephen frantically searching for her, her rescue by neighbors, and her short term memory loss..

Relaxing read

A light, pleasant romance read with a somewhat different take on things. The characters certainly are, and the plot moves along well. Just the sort of escapism we all need from time to time.
E. Klett gave her usual fine audio performance which always adds to the prose.
This book was free, and a review was anticipated.

Enjoyable Listen

Audiobook - narration Elizabeth Klett - really good!

Book two in this series. I know it says they are standalone, but I think you should read the series and read in order. This book focuses on a new h, but the H is a character from book 1 and there are continuations of situations from book 1 as well as all the same characters for the most part. It does explain things well enough that you probably won't be lost, but these are enjoyable characters so you may as well read the whole series!

In the beginning, Elizabeth seeks the help of Steven (who proposed to Elizabeth in book 1). She's been kidnapped and is going to be sold to marry someone who 'likes them young' ewwww!

Steven helps her escape and then begins the dicey adventure of getting her someplace safe without casting the impression of impropriety and ruining her reputation. Steven, being a single man with his own dicey reputation, has his hands full trying to accomplish this! He's 25 and she's nearly 18 so in his eyes, she just a child, but he can't dismiss his immediate attraction to her.

There's a spot of danger, some disappearances, misunderstandings, some conclusions to things began in book 1 and some set up for our couples in book 3. As a whole, a really enjoyable series with terrific narration, sweet romances and HEA's

Another great book

The 2nd book in the trilogy didn't disappoint me. I love the way Audrey Harrison writes. The story kept me engaged throughout and left me wanting more. I love all the strong female characters. It's always enjoyable to see an overbearing Lord get put I his place.

Entertaining, but a bit soap operish.

This was a fun book, with highly strung emotions and some adventure and peril thrown in for a good measure. Like most adventure and romance novels it's forgettable, but entertaining. Some of the overwrought emotions and convenient plot twists felt like they should have been left where they belong - in the soap operas. They didn't add anything and were annoying and obvious plot devices.

The book is the second part of a series and relies heavily on the events of the first book, so I would recommend reading them in order. Although I had similar misgivings about the first book, I decided to give the second one a chance anyway. I don't regret the read, but I didn't see much improvement - some of the faults are even slightly more glaring here, so I don't think I'll continue reading the series.

The performance was excellent and went a long way in smoothing out some of the annoyances, so overall it ended up an enjoyable listening experience.

Good story, excellent narrator.

If you could sum up An Inconvenient Wife in three words, what would they be?

Pleasant, entertaining, predictable

Who was your favorite character and why?

The bow street runner...he's competent, street-wise, and has a mystery behind him.

What about Elizabeth Klett’s performance did you like?

I liked everything about Elizabeth klett's performance. Seriously, she made this. The story is fine but her narration takes it to the next level. Pleasant voice, subtle but extremely effective.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really.

Any additional comments?

Obviously the second in the series because there were a fair number of paragraphs needed into fill in the backstory for events in this book to make sense. That was fine by since I hadn't read book one but might be a little tedious for someone who had.

What about Elizabeth Klett’s performance did you like?

I thought she did Wonderful with the voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love Wins
