Like a really saucy gay Regency novel

What made the experience of listening to Lord John and the Hand of the Devils the most enjoyable?

Very clever writing. Great vocal performance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lord John and the Hand of the Devils?

I wouldn't want to spoil any surprises for other readers!

Which character – as performed by Jeff Woodman – was your favorite?

Lord John, of course.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

I was very surprised to enjoy this as much as I did. I avoided the Lord John novels for years, thinking they would be sloppy seconds for Outlander, but I actually enjoy them even more. I think the plot and overall style of writing is cleaner and more clever. A bit like Georgette Heyer. I quite liked this.

Lord John is the most interesting character!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to all of my friends because we are all mostly fans of Diana Gabaldon's

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lord John and the Hand of the Devils?

Diana is a crafty author and she makes spins and turns everywhere in her series. There were quite a few unexpected twists and turns and outcomes that I was glad of.

Which character – as performed by Jeff Woodman – was your favorite?

Lord John. He does such a great job bringing him to life and is the most consistent with all of his characters. I don't usually like to listen to male narrators, but thankfully this has changed thanks to Jeff Woodman.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did want to listen to this book non-stop because I always wanted to know what mess Lord John was going to get into (and how he got himself out of it) next.

Any additional comments?

Great story, good plot, questions answered and CLOSURE. This book has closure on the plot (something many have lacked that I have listened to of other authors). These books are not for the person not willing to go outside their comfort zone (and even squirm) in certain situations.

3 short stories

Narrator voice provides good listening; he individuated characters. However, repeated tracking/editing errors, especially in the 3rd story.

Mystery

Once again Diana writes an intriguing set of stories. Lord John makes quite a good detective. Learning about how cannons were made was extremely interesting. I never knew about the copper. Mystery, war, mayhem and love; what more can you ask for.

Stories lacking.

I did not like these Novelas as much as I like the outlander series. But they did provide some entertaining. Performances were very welcome.

Unexpectedly Not My Cup Of Tea

I am not homophobic, but I am a traditional, hopeless romantic who enjoys historical fiction. If I had known the main character was homosexual I would never have purchased this book—for me it just doesn’t fit with the genre.

Good story but the recording is poor

The recording has multiple times where is repeats a line, skips like an old fashioned record. It’s annoying. Otherwise, the performance/reading was good, not great like the Outlander novels, but good.

heads up

You should read all the other Lord John stories before this one or the frequent references will just confuse. Also note that the the first two stories ( Hellfire and the Succubus) are available also on audible so if you are a big Gabaldon fan you will only be getting this book for the third story.
