About this listen

Historical romance writer Lenore Held, aka LaSandra Lacy, feeling the need to step into the present century, both personally and professionally, has agreed to coauthor a steamy contemporary romance with male author, MP Finnegan. And as sparks begin to fly, on and off the written page, the world around them turns into utter chaos.

Her son’s father, Senator Byron Maxwell, makes an appearance in her life after an almost 22-year absence. Theirs was the proverbial bad clique of a Washington romance: the gentrified, conservative, womanizing statesman and the beautiful, brilliant but naive, starry-eyed intern, who had the bad taste to become pregnant with his child. He pretended they didn’t exist, until now. Now he wants something from her, something that isn’t hers to give.

Add to that a media play gone horribly wrong, a stalker, home invasion, and unhinged family members of the senator’s, and Lenore and MP’s life together begins to resemble a book plot. But unlike a book, the turmoil that surrounds them is real and deadly.

gotta love the brogue....

There was much here to have you pushing play. Two authors of different genres come together to make a steamy outcome. Both professionally and personally. Things around them heat up in all kinds of ways good and bad. My biggest yes was that this was a more mature (not old) romance. The romance between two romance writers. The worlds they craft in their heads come to life for them both. Maybe with a little more drama. When real life and fictional life begin to be a little too real. The past come to life in their present.

Ruel Keith did a fab job with the various constant character. The consistency was on point. The lite irish litle was just the perfect touch for me. I loved MP. The drawback was not the narrator but the audio sound quality. There was a lite echoing through many of the chapters.

Perfection!

When Lenore Held agrees to coauthor a steamy romance novel with male author MP Finnegan, who knew what would ensue… Certainly not Lenore aka LaSandra Lacy or MP. Between nefarious characters from Lenore’s past, and their not so tightly wrapped family members making their presence known, co-workers with row boats clearly missing an oar or two, and the distinct possibility of a stalker…. Well, to say any more just might be skating a wee bit too close to playing spoiler, but believe me, this story has everything! Romance, suspense, action, intrigue, heat, witty dialogue, beautifully drawn believable characters, a fabulously delicious plot with a jaw dropping ending, and absolutely fabulous narration! My attention was instantly captured and held throughout it’s entirety! I loved everything about this audiobook. I honestly did not want it to end!

Ok

Slow to start… not sure I liked the narrator. Not sure I will finish the whole thing

Story Was Good.

The author has written what some may call a romance but she also includes some political intrigue and mystery. The political intrigue would fit in perfectly with some of the politicos that are currently in office. The intrigue didn’t take away from the romance that develops between the main characters but helps to move the story along. And some of that romance can get a little steamy.

Mr. Keith was all right as a narrator but I don’t know if he was the perfect choice for this book. There were times when I thought I picked up on the voice he would do for one character but used for another but then he quickly corrected. At one point, I thought I heard a background noise but not sure if that was intentional – so that’s what I’m going to go with. As I was getting toward the last quarter of the story, I heard a couple of missteps that I was surprised were not edited/corrected.

Listening to this book was a great way to pass the time but I think that I would have more fun in reading it myself. I tried to see if the narrator had read other work, just to give me something to compare to, but couldn’t locate anything. I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced this, but there came a time where you hear someone talk but don’t concentrate on the words.

Something like that is not fair to what this author has created. Going back to read the book would help to concentrate on her scenes. Even reading and listening might help. Plus, then I might not laugh at hearing Mr. Keith during scenes where one of the secondary characters is talking. I don’t know if he will take it as a compliment but when the narrator did the voice for said character all I could think of was Harvey Fierstein. I’ve always been a fan of Mr. Fierstein so I hope he takes it that way.

This was my first experience with Ms. Long and it won’t be the last. I’m interested to see what other works she has done. She writes under a different name and will have to check that work out as well.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
