About this listen

The Cooks didn't care much for the cats swarming in from the abandoned sections of used-up coal refineries, invading their little slice of paradise with multitudes of nightmarish felines with strange glowing green eyes. What do these strays want? And why won't they go away? The Cooks will learn that some cats just want to watch the world burn.

Not bad, but...

This gets a definite “meh” from me. The story itself is decent, but the narrator has a lot to do with my lack of enthusiasm — she e-nun-ci-ates too pre-cise-ly for nat-ur-al speech and it’s real-ly dis-tract-ing. (Yeah. Like that.) And her emphasis on certain words seems . . . off. I would say “mechanical,” but that’s not quite it. She has a fairly pleasant voice though, so if she were speaking normally, listening to the story would be a lot more enjoyable.

Great short story!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this short story, but I'm happy to say I enjoyed it...especially the dialogue.

I don't want to give anything away, but I won't be looking at cats the same way again for a while...lol.

An original, fun short story ruined by poor narration …

This was an interesting and engaging short story about a town being overrun with “cats”. Sadly the narration is poorly done and takes away from the enjoyment of the story. I would recommend this book but advise to stay away from the audiobook.

"Too poor to move, too stuck to care."

Jill hated cats, but there they were again, staring in from her garden...
A short (50 minutes) easy read, predictable perhaps but still carrying the reader relentlessly onward to the disappointing conclusion. It has a creepy edge which developed nicely. Unfortunately, what could have been a 3 star rating is completely ruined by the narration. May Webster's delivery is slow, jerky, each word spoken individually, so that it became hard to listen: much more mechanical that an human voice, even when playback speed was increased. Towards the end of chapter 3, she improves slightly as emotion is injected but by then it is too late: the reader irritation hqd set in. Much better to read a printed copy of this book.
