Publisher's summary

Almost three years ago, a car crash took Audrey's dad and scarred her for life. Now 18, she returns to her hometown for the first time after the accident.

She's here to start again. Go to college and have fun. Make new friends. Get over the past. But the past won't let go.

Asher is here - her first kiss, her first heartbreak. More handsome and distant than ever, he's still the boy who used to be her best friend. That was before he changed into someone she hardly knows anymore - the boy who started getting into fights and gave her the cold shoulder for years.

Asher isn't what she needs. In fact, she hates him and should try her best to keep away from him.

Yet her body doesn't seem to care about how she feels, and maybe, just maybe this time her body got it right. Not that she has much of a choice. Asher draws her like a bright flame, and if she isn't careful, she'll burn.

And that may not be such a bad thing after all....

Standalone novel. No cliffhanger. Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature listeners only. Not intended for young listeners.

Good overall but FRUSTRATING!

I loved the action and the sexy scenes are steamy. It was frustrating how some form of insecurity made each of the main characters operate at half capacity. The main character's drama grew on me bit by bit.

Emotional

Audrey & Asher have a difficult past, they used to be best friends, and then they weren’t. This a messy & emotional story showing just how much we can know a person & love them, and still not really know the pain & struggles they endure. I did enjoy how they opened up and moved forward. They both had trauma that held them back, and this was a story about moving forward.

Umm.. again with the cliffhangers

not sure if this ended on an actual cliffhanger or that was just the end of Asher and Audrey's story but I felt left high and dry. Like something was missing. I honestly could have used another chapter or epilogue for them instead of the bonus chapter from Tyler's book. Other than that, the book was good. The whole fight club scene was a little anticlimactic but hey.. to each his own. we'll see if i go on with the series.

Not sure if I can read the rest of the series

I had several problems with this book. The story was slightly redeemed by the ending, but when I remembered that all of this was supposed to be happening within a group of 18 year olds I wanted to check to see whether this was supposed to be categorized as a fantasy of some sort. Asher & Audrey's story would have been questionable if everyone was 4 years older, but the timeline as is seems really hinky. Also, I know underage drinking is prevalent, but are we really supposed to believe that these kids have unlimited access to alcohol both at home and in bars with no mention of fake I.D.? Let's not even delve deeply into the fact that college freshman are set up, not in a dorm, but in sizeable sounding apartments. Then are we going to dismiss the group of very young adults all having some sort of terrible past that allows them to enter into the "inked brotherhood" when almost all of them grew up in the same town? That would be the kind of bad luck that makes someone friends with Jessica Fletcher. If I could get past that, the thing I won't forgive is the absolutely ridiculous and petty things that would be brought up to keep the listener on an emotional yo-yo of 'he loves me, he loves me not' and 'she's to good for me, but maybe I should take a shot anyway.' that was used. I'm all for making a book suspenseful and realistically bringing up problems a blooming relationship could have from past hurts and current misconceptions and low self worth, but I lost track of how many times the author employed this method.
I've enjoyed some of the author's other books, but I just don't know if I can put myself through this insanity again by reading the rest of the series.
On a high note. The narration was excellent and is probably why I didn't stop listening after an hour.

first experience with a audiobook

I read caveman and got a taste of Zane's character in that and was intrigued enough to find out more.i was a disappointed that the only way to get the inked brotherhood stories is threw audiobooks, and even thought this was my very first experience with an audiobook I have to say I will continue with the series to find out each of the brothers storylines but it was a little difficult for me to focus on the audiobook at all times being that it was my first experience with one. my preferred method is to read an actual book, but the narrators do a good job of making me feel like I'm hearing the characters voices.

This was pretty good.

I didn’t always love the narrators. The make voice was too old sounding for an 18yr old boy and the girl voice was at times annoying.
The book it’s self was good. It is full of twists and turns. You always wondering what’s next. Looking forward to the next book.

Asher & Audrey

This is such a heartbreaking story with a HEA. The things Asher endured his whole life was just so sad. I'm glad he got his girl and things are on the road to being better for him. He was such a kind person and he loved his girl and had for a long time. Narration was good. CJ Missions has just found himself in my list of favorite male narrators. He has a beautiful sexy voice. I'm glad I got to listen to this book.
