Publisher's summary

From the number one New York Times best-selling author of This Is Where It Ends comes another heartbreaking, emotional and timely pause-resister that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Hope Juvenile Treatment Center is ironically named. No one has hope for the delinquent teenagers who have been exiled there; the world barely acknowledges that they exist.

Then the guards at Hope start acting strange. And one day...they don't show up. But when the teens band together to make a break from the facility, they encounter soldiers outside the gates. There's a rapidly spreading infectious disease outside, and no one can leave their houses or travel without a permit. Which means that they're stuck at Hope. And this time, no one is watching out for them at all.

As supplies quickly dwindle and a deadly plague tears through their ranks, the group has to decide whom among them they can trust and figure out how they can survive in a world that has never wanted them in the first place.

the way one person can make a difference

I would like to disagree with the author! if you are poor white poor black poor Asian! poor anything you are under Jim crow laws.
my brother served 10 years for having a pocket knife that he put back in his pocket. He was a teen robbing a house at 17 in the 80s from a broken home with an abusive mother alcoholic and a dad that didn't care. this was when you could smoke in jail well they sentenced him to 10 years in prison and 5 years probation. he was just a kid he was raped multiple times they also held him down and burnt the bottoms of his feet with lighters. He was in jail for a year from 16 to 17. I have a gf who is nave American an Irish like me and my brother she was left to have her menses on herself beaten raped and abused when her dad had to send a federal Marshall in to guard her when thryvasked for film of her in jail they sent her lawyers film of some girl that wasn't her. and a female guard helped hold her down to be beaten and raped. she was in solitary confinement the whole time any time she knocked on the door for toilet paper she was beaten when she showed up to court with blood all down her pants and hadn't been given a change of uniform in 60 days the judge threw the case out those police were taken before the grand jury and indicted the woman got away with it. the Marshall was there the last month she was given one clean uniform and 4vrolls of toilet paper no pillows or blankets. Those police were ordered that they could never arrest her or follow her again so they followed me when I went to see her and tried to search my car
they got in trouble for that too.
my brother shortly after he got out of prison was murdered by someone from the prison so I really don't want to hear how much worse any race has it ! because poor white black or Asian you don't mean shit. they don't care your lawyer is a court appointed lawyer and they work for the court. so on a case my brother could of taken a plea bargain on he went through a trial and it was an election year he got the max and I paid to have him buried. I'm sick of this crap where one race had it worse. when they kill their own people more than any race and blame every race but their own because they can't even behave in school. so just stop with the sjw crap. my brother became a body builder and strength trainer to survive because he was poor. meanwhile the racism you claim exists is bs. they shoot their own people and get less titime than someone with a pocket knife. they kill their gfs and get less time than my brother did. Jim crow laws look into them because it's not just poor blacks it's poor whites and Asians oh and Mexicans. you need to study up on the inside. also look at records because they claim racism but have records that are half a football field lo g and still get out early.
