About this listen

A Wall Street Journal bestselling series.

The mystery of three missing teens and a traumatizing murder unearths decades of buried secrets in a shocking novel of suspense by a Wall Street Journal and Amazon Charts bestselling author.

Twenty years ago, five teenage campers disappeared. Two eventually turned up, bound and left for dead on the Columbia River’s rocky shore. Only Devin Bonner miraculously survived, but with no memories of what happened in the Oregon forest.

After decades, the cold case generates heat for FBI Special Agent Mercy Kilpatrick and her husband, Police Chief Truman Daly. They’re investigating the murder of a true-crime podcaster found at the river’s edge in the same location, and with the exact same manner of death. With the discovery, Devin’s nightmares return. His only real friend is Ollie Smith, Truman’s orphaned ward, whose own search for the truth sucks Ollie into a mystery far greater and more dangerous than anyone imagined.

Following a trail of fresh blood and an escalating series of murders, Mercy and Truman must work fast to unlock whatever traumas are buried in Devin’s memories before the secrets of the past claim another victim.

Wow.

I have read most of Kendra Elliot’s books. I live in the PNW and enjoy the connections to my home area. I think this book may be my favorite. I really like the first in this series, but the end to this book wowed me!

Story was well thought out

The characters were too nice and easy going. Things fell into place too easily. The story was unique and definitely worth reading

OMG

OMG this may be the best book in the series!! So many nail biting situations and some really good twists. I have always like the main characters and I guess now we have a new one to root for. Teri Schnaubelt is always awesome and Shaun Taylor-Corbett was new to me but also gave a great performance! Bing on Book 6

Good, but not one I'd share as a must read...

This book was good, but not one I'd share with my book buddies as a must read. There were twists and turns, but none that were shocking. The story itself was written in what I can only describe as disjointed, at times. The performance of it didn't improve the flow. Overall, it was worth the read, but not something I'd choose to read again.

Best one yet!

I loved the twisty story and particularly the ending! I love Ollie and would love to hear more about him. Can’t wait for the next book in the series to release in December!

Great story as always, horrible male narrator

I’m never disappointed in this series, and this installment was no exception. I loved everything about it, and the female narrator was perfect as always. The only hard thing about this one was the male narrator. The male narrator for this book is horrible. It sounds like a high-schooler that got called on to read in front of the class. He reads each sentence as if it’s a separate entity of its own, with very clipped endings to the sentences. Theres also weird pauses in the middle of sentences. There’s no emotion at all, and it made it very hard to listen. The voice also sounds more like a teenager versus a grown man that Truman is supposed to be, so it’s also hard to connect the voice to Truman when it sounds like it only belongs to Ollie. I know the actor himself is in his 40’s, but his voice doesn’t match the character of Truman at all. But look past that and enjoy the story!

Very complex and surprising tale

I love the growth of familiar characters. Although I haven’t read them in order the story manages to remind me of previous experiences in the title characters lives.

Loved catching up w Mercy and Truman!

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Mercy and Truman so this was a treat! The pair are about to celebrate one year of wedded bliss, along with their ‘kids’, Ollie and Kate. Mercy is called in by the sheriff to help with attacks on power substations. Truman is working on a murdered podcaster. Their cases collide and involves a 20yo case of 5 teens…3 went missing, 1 was killed & 1 maimed for life with no recollection of the event. Lots of twists and turns but the dynamic duo solves the case and have a great outcome for Ollie and the survivor.
