About this listen

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

A dead conspiracy theorist. A mass murderer. Two cases collide for Callahan and McLane in a pulse-pounding thriller by Wall Street Journal and Amazon Charts bestselling author Kendra Elliot.

A man is savagely murdered outside Portland, and Detective Mason Callahan finds blood-spatter evidence that tells a troubling story. Files reveal the murder victim, Reuben Braswell, was a radical conspiracist. In his home, investigators find pages of diatribes against law enforcement as well as ties to Mason’s fiancée, FBI special agent Ava McLane. The victim was her informant - and had strong reasons to be paranoid.

To Ava, Braswell’s rants were those of a wearying and harmless man…until they collide with her investigation into the murders of police officers and finding the connection becomes urgent. Meanwhile, Braswell’s brother and Ava’s twin sister both disappear, and disturbing acts of sabotage target Ava’s personal life.

For Mason and Ava, the brutal crimes and escalating mysteries create a perfect storm for a terrorist conspiracy that becomes dangerously personal - one that has yet to claim its last victim.

Comments from a reader

This is another good novel from Kindra Elliot. I think it was fun and had a good turn in the storyline.

Intriguing story

I have enjoyed many Kendra Elliott stories. Well written, great story telling and involves Oregon towns and landmarks. However, because the story tells of those sites the reader/performer should properly pronounce the places. Surprised Kendra allowed Willamette, The Dallas & Cannon beach to be pronounced poorly. As a Oregonian I winced every time those places were mentioned

The ‘Dales’ ? No, it’s the Dalles

Learn to properly pronounce the place names please! It DOES matter!
In Oregon it’s Wil-LAM-ette, accent is on the middle syllable Wil-LAM-ette River, Wil-LAM-ette Valley, etc.
In Illinois and Canada it's pronounced Will a-METTE so it's easy to see why that mistake is made, but still, one of the reasons I was drawn to this book is because of the place and my familiarity with it.. So please instruct the reader to pronounce words correctly. It's not too much to ask. If I was getting paid for a service I would certainly take more pride in it.
And the twin thing? I’m supposed to take Ava seriously as a professional but she can’t take herself seriously? I’ve known several twins and they’ve all been able to differentiate themselves. In fact, they want to. Ava, as a law enforcement officer, tolerating her twin's outrageous offenses, is frankly an insult to your readers' intelligence. Please, leave the weak drama behind. Your readers are smarter than this.

good story but mechanical oration at times

Great story to read but at times the narration sounded like it was computerized. Would recommend.

Meh

I had a really hard time getting into this one. Narration was on point though.

Very monotone performance

I love Kendra Elliot books. I really love the person that reads the Mercy series. This narrator was ok, but during the non-dialog parts it really sounded monotone and didn’t have any feeling. It was more reading than feeling like you were being told a story. Also being and Oregon native, it really annoys me when the narrators pronounce towns or other landmarks incorrectly.

I highly recommend this ebook AND Audible

This is for both the ebook and the Audible.

What an excellent book. And the Audible was beyond perfect. It brought together my favorite people and really maintained the character and personality if the team. Glad for the cameo of Mercy. I miss her. I miss all the older series characters. This plotline was so smoothly written and I really kept my interest. Glad there are four more books left in the series.

In the meantime, I need to go back and reread all older books.

Disappointed

I live in Oregon and it’s very disappointing to hear the names of the places in the book mispronounced. I heard it over and over in this book. Also, the narrator was very monotone in this book. Almost unbelievable because of the tones and cadence of her voice.
