Publisher's summary

F--k me for choosing the wrong sister.

Atlas Carter was a protector. He was a police officer, had spent years in the Air Force, spent his entire teen years as a volunteer firefighter.

Being a protector was in his blood.

It was his dream.

So when a woman was in a dangerous situation, it was his every instinct to protect her. To shield her. To watch over her.

Only, that woman had played him.

She’d set him up.

She’d made sure that he only saw her.

Then, when the real woman who should hold his heart, the sister, comes into his life, he doesn’t see past the hatred of her to know that she’s only trying to protect him in return.

He spends the next year terrorizing the woman who’s supposed to be his. When the dust finally settles, and he can see clearly once again, she’s no longer there waiting for him.

Favorite from this series

My favorite from this series so far. The story had a good pace, the villains get their comeuppance, and as always, a wonderful epilogue and a great Happily Ever After.

loved it

Pepper is struggled most her life with a crazy sister. As an adult she's distanced herself until one request changes everything and she has to cross paths with her sister again. Atlas is a cop who also works on the swat team. The first time they meet is when he comes into her job. Sparks happen but fate has a ugly way of changing things like in the way of Peppers sister, who has Atlas wrapped around her finger and her lies. But what will happen when the pull is too strong for Atlas and Pepper to ignore? Will Atlas finally see the truth about Pepper? Will there be a HEA?

Great narration

Atlas and Pepper

An evocative thrill ride to go on with Atlas and Pepper. This is a deeply emotional, heart-wrenching, angsty and intoxicating romance. There were times I was so frustrated with Atlas. He treated Pepper badly. I truly felt Pepper's pain, especially when she said she was momless and angry. These two went through so much I honestly did not think they would make it but they definitely proved that love conquers all. Lani Lynn Vale never ceases to amaze me. I loved, adored and enjoyed every single moment of this story.
Tor Thom is always a phenomenal narrator, He can read a grocery list and I'd listen. This was the first time for me to listen to June deBorahae, she has a sweet voice that made me just want to listen to her as well. That being said, narration was fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed

The narration was perfection. Great job! The story was intriguing and the characters entertaining. A family grows up with one of its members a habitual liar and trouble maker. As an adult, it gets worse and the family is in survival mode. This woman is very convincing to outsiders and is dangerous to the family. Things escalate and someone is put in extreme danger. No way to describe this plot to do it justice. The characters are engaging. I have listened to it at least four times and enjoyed it each time. Highly recommend. Enjoy. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger.

I Miss The Old Lani!

I’ll never stop buying LLV’s books even though her stories have shortened and don’t get the attention to detail like the used to. The massive plot holes and obvious oversights make it seem like she doesn’t care enough about the readers experience like she used to. I hate saying that because I still love her early work. But it’s like she’s so focused on getting the next book out on schedule that she rushes through the plot. For example- in Rent Free it’s like LLV couldn’t be bothered to fill in simple plot holes. When Pepper gets hit the story might as well end there since she gave us NO INSIGHT into the actions of Emory & Sage. No police interviews, no answers regarding the extent of their friendship or why Emory never told Atlas she was pregnant. Suddenly they’re BFF’s? No detail on how Sage convinced Emory to try to kill her sister. No interrogation? And then- Sage dies in prison with ZERO EXPLANATION HOW OR WHY!?! Nothing about Pepper’s father after the wedding? Did he die? Her family made no appearance at the hospital after she was hit? How is it possible for beta readers to miss this type of detail in their feedback? I KNOW the author is capable of making the effort to fill those plot holes. Her earlier work proves it. I haven’t given up on LLV returning to her roots yet!
