About this listen

The bar is open and all your friends at Ruby’s are back.

Christmas is usually Rey Madrona’s favorite time of year, but with eviction from her apartment looming and problems at the hospital where she works, Rey’s only bright spot in life is her friends at Ruby’s - especially her sexy roommate, Marty.

When Marty Heath finds herself in Rey’s arms under the mistletoe, her wishes about her roommate seem ready to be fulfilled. At least until her phone rings to ruin the moment and sends her life spinning out of control.

Rey and Marty are the best of friends...but could they someday be more? And what will it take to finally bring them together? Maybe a place like Ruby’s.

Mild spoilers..

I read Welcome to Ruby's and Back to Ruby's one after the other.

Midway through Back to Ruby's, I was getting annoyed with the characters and impatient for things to move along. There can only be so many misunderstandings and self deprecating thoughts to undermine a romance.

The story of the bar carried things along, and then I was caught in the plot twist. This is not a typical romance story, because every woman is not just an underconfident, but well adjusted person ready for the love of her life to sweep her off her feet. Fortunately Mandy is the friend that Rey needs and sees what she needs in time for a happy, appropriate, but atypical ending.

I finished the story, impressed that Luck managed to lead me down the garden path, made me feel what her characters were feeling and turn me on my ear with her plot twist. KC Luck taught me something and showed me a glimpse of real life in this important story.

Happy endings are not all alike.

Not a typical romance novel, but an important read

I can't believe how the main characters could not get it together. So much misunderstanding. SMH on Marty, so confusing. I wanted to put it down many times. The first book was much better

This was such a disappointing sequel! Half way thru, I wanted to put this down... The level of foolishness was unreal. The entire book, I wanted to shake both main characters. The other coupled up friends were just slightly better. The only sensible one in the bunch was the perpetually single player. Smh... The author missed the mark on this one!

Long and drawn!
