About this listen
50 SHADES meets David Fincher’s THE GAME.
Soon to be a major motion picture!
Would you kill a total stranger to save someone you love?
Sugar & Spice is the latest app craze taking the world by storm, but for Abby and Brendan Hollander, downloading it leads to a dangerous game of life and death.
When the app assigns them a series of increasingly taboo tasks, they soon find themselves caught up in a twisted web of seduction and violence in this sexually charged dark thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of The Fourth Monkey—master of suspense, J.D. Barker.
“J.D. Barker is a one-of-a-kind writer and that’s a rare and special thing. Stephen King comes to mind and Lee Child, John Sandford. All one-of-a-kinds. Don’t miss anything J.D. writes.”—James Patterson, #1 international bestselling author

Story
Michael and Megan Fitzgerald are siblings who share a terrifying past. Both adopted, and now grown — Michael is a long-haul truck driver, Megan a college student majoring in psychology — they trust each other before anyone else. They've had to. Their parents are public intellectuals, an Ivy League clinical psychologist and a renowned psychiatrist, and they brought up their adopted children in a rarefied, experimental environment. It sheltered them from the world's harsh realities, but it also forced secrets upon them, secrets they keep at all costs.

When horror author Thad McAlister began his latest novel, a tale rooted in the witch trials of centuries past, the words flowed effortlessly. The story poured forth, filling page after page with the most frightening character ever to crawl from his imagination. Story
When Kate Summerlin was eleven years old, she climbed out her bedroom window on a spring night, looking for a taste of freedom in the small college town where she was living with her parents. But what she found as she wandered in the woods near her house was something else: the body of a beautiful young woman, the first of Merkury's victims. And before she could come to grips with what she was seeing, she heard a voice behind her—the killer's voice—saying: "Don't turn around."

The day my path crossed with Simon Fox I thought I’d already lost everything, but then he almost ran me off the road with his flash car and belittling jibes. The men in my life had undermined me for too long. Enough was enough. Fuelled by alcohol and the desire to get even, I decided a spot of petty vandalism would make me feel a whole lot better. Wrong. Very wrong. I hadn’t realised that Simon Fox was not a man to be messed with.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Outstanding Book
Here’s a revised five-star review for *Behind a Closed Door* by J.D. Barker:
---
Behind A Closed Door by J.D. Barker is an extraordinary psychological thriller that captivated me from the very first page. The plot twists and turns in ways that kept me guessing, and the suspense was so intense that I couldn’t stop reading. Once I finished the book, I immediately listened to the audio version, which was just as gripping.
Barker’s ability to create such vivid and complex characters is truly remarkable. The story dives deep into the dark secrets and hidden fears that lie behind a seemingly ordinary life, making for a read that is both chilling and thought-provoking.
The audio narration was exceptional, adding an extra layer of tension and emotion to the experience. It felt like I was right there, living through the events alongside the characters.
If you enjoy thrillers that keep you on edge and leave you thinking long after you’ve finished, *Behind a Closed Door* is an absolute must. Both the book and the audio version are outstanding. Highly recommended!

No spoiler review
First, I started listening to the author starting with the fourth monkey. I first encountered the narrator Edoardo Ballerini with Proxima Rising. So for me this was an easy purchase. The story was fun. It was a great listen. I listened to the entire book in one sitting. You just can’t go wrong with this pair.

Twists and turns! Long…
I really liked the book. I liked the writing and loved the narration. The storyline was interesting and held my attention except the last like 15 chapters. I feel like the story just drug out for too long. I kept wanting it to be over even though it was a great book. Sounds funny to say that, but I get like it just starting to repeat itself a bit at the end. I feel like those last 20 chapters could have to tied up in a much abridged version and would have been just as effective in the storytelling aspect and in the plot twists and turns aspect. So I’m torn between loving the writer, this novel, and narration and saying that the last chapters have almost turned me off from reading his other books. I have already put his other books in my library and was looking forward to them. I am still going to read at least one more to see if this novel is indicative of how he ends his novels. Thanks and this was just my two cents worth.

Great start but started dragging
I loved the story line to start and it started out great but after 4 hours of this 11 hour book it was just dragging. I kept listening thinking it would get better but didn’t really. Don’t get me wrong it’s still a good book just long.

Fast paced
Very paced paced. Intriguing. I’ve read all of Barker’s books. I thought The Three Monkey’s series excellent but this is by far his best. This book has catapulted him from being a great author to the upper echelons of one of America’s greatest contemporary writers. Well done. Deede Blake, author

The dark parts 😂
BEHIND A CLOSED DOOR
J.D. Barker
Genre: thriller, action, mystery
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5/5 stars
Lots of action. It seemed very unrealistic at times but really not that far fetched since our world is so reliant on technology. Very eerie and disturbing on many levels!

Twists I never saw coming
This book was amazing. Great character development, with lots of surprises. It’s been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. I didn’t want it to end.

Great Ride!
I suppose I was expecting an “ okay” story, but it turned out that I couldn’t stop listening to this audiobook. The story was very original with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Based on some of the reviews, I was expecting a dark and uncomfortable story, but this was not that. Sure, the content is adult in nature (not porn-like, though), but it was not uncomfortable for me and I found it entertaining. The narrator did a great job with differentiating across characters, so it was easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this audiobook.
