About this listen

The small town of Harrod’s Reach has seen its fair share of the macabre, especially inside the decrepit old train tunnel around which the town was built. After a young boy, Sully Dupree, is injured in the abandoned tunnel and left in a coma, the townspeople are determined to wall it up. Deputy sheriff Beth Gardner is reluctant to buy into the superstitions until she finds two corpses at the tunnel’s entrance, each left with strange calling cards inscribed with old lullabies. Soon after, Sully Dupree briefly awakens from his coma.

Before falling back into his slumber, Sully manages to give his older brother a message. Sully's mind, since the accident, has been imprisoned on the other side of the tunnel in Lalaland, a grotesque and unfamiliar world inhabited by evil mythical creatures of sleep. Sully is trapped there with hundreds of other coma patients, all desperately fighting to keep the evils of the dream world from escaping into the waking world.

Elsewhere, a man troubled by his painful youth has for years been hearing a voice in his head he calls Mr. Lullaby, and he has finally started to act on what that voice is telling him—to kill any coma patient he can find, quickly. Something is waking up in the tunnel—something is trying to get through. And Mr. Lullaby is coming.

The male narration was fine BUT the female voice was annoying. She spoke too softly and made it sound like she was (unsuccessfully) trying to sound sympathetic. VERY annoying.
I liked most of the book but it got a bit sexual in parts I don't feel added ANYTHING to the story. Seems it was just thrown in to add pages to the book or perhaps try to appeal more to men. Either way I found it absolutely necessary.

It was OK but...

Had to lean into it because it was so out there. It's like zombies except with serial killers driven by mythical lullabies? Great voice acting kept me engaged. Stuck with it because I needed to know what happens after all the chaos. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the ending which I guess leaves you with your own interpretation

Definitely out there

Loved the story line but hate how it ended and it all seemed to rush. The ending was way too fast with no real conclusion to the story. Wish it had more of a stead story line and a conclusion to end it properly.

Hated the ending

I like how the author doesn't become mired in the details, his style of writing horror books is refreshing. This is a great story!

So original! The mix of horror with the history of the tunnel was perfect, loved the characters… Teddy Lomax, oh my! And the glimpses of Lalaland leave me begging for more!

Old School Horror Anyone?

The story and its tie in to the previous book are amazing. Almost horror, almost sci-fi, almost drama. It really walks the line between them all.

Great story, read both books!
