Publisher's summary

When Dr. Paris DeMont lost her beloved Gabriella to the mindless tragedy of Nine Eleven, she lost more than her partner of eight years. She lost her will to love. A successful cardiologist to New York City's elite, Paris now lives a sterile, emotionless existence on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

But Paris finds out that even when one tries to give up on life, life has a way of interfering and forcing you to live it. When Paris returns to Banyon, Missouri, to oversee the repairs to the aging Victorian farmhouse she inherited from her grandmother, the protective barrier she has wrapped around her heart is tested to the limit.

Childhood friend Sloan McKinley still carries a torch for Paris . . . a torch that even after twenty-five years still burns brightly and threatens to consume them both, if only Paris will let it.

Contains mature themes.

Childhood friends meet again after 30+ years

This is my 2nd Kenna White book & will continue to read all her others (insert applause emoji). Love her writing & storytelling. Her attention to detail & descriptions are fantastic. I was salivating hearing about all the good southern & Italian cooking! I may have also shed some tears. Loved both MCs & the secondary characters were great, too. The childhood flashbacks were sweet & just the right length; they came up at the right moments throughout the story. Now for the cherry on top…Abby Craden’s narration. Wow! Abby’s acting & diverse voices makes you think you’re watching a movie instead of hearing a book. You’ll forget that only one narrator is doing all the voices. From the MCs to the male voices, to the children, Abby is incredible. I wouldn’t have minded an epilogue to complete the book. But, overall I give it 6 stars!

lovely story

First K White I read was Virgin Territory, and I loved it especially because it centers around mature women - with less drama and more communication. This one is also good, but lacked the depth I would have liked, and too little open honest communication.

Good but ending was abrupt

Good but mixed feelings about the ending … definitely came down to the wire with the ending, then it was rainbows.. the emotional switch was hard to flow with. Sloan was steady loved her certainty. Paris loss was tragic, but still didn’t like how sloan was treated. Overall it was a good story line, just wish the ending had a bit more.

The ending could have been longer!

I was upset with the ending and wanted more of the story than that! Seriously that’s it? She makes her worry and then that’s it?!

A Heartfelt Love Story

I connected with both of these characters. I loved how the story integrated their childhood connection- which was so cute and endearing. I found myself rooting for these two to have their long awaited happily ever after. This will go in my Heartfelt love story and reread collections

Abby was amazing again!

Cute story. Abby did an awesome job once again with all of the voices and accents (women, men, old people, and children). Worth a listen for sure!

Books that make me cry this much . . .

I still loved the entire experience of the book. The characters are complex. The narration is compelling. If you are triggered by 9/11 skip this one.

Connection

Why, why have these books not been made movies. I have listened to so many that would make amazing movies.
