About this listen

Numbers rule Dr. Mei Sharpe’s life. She has no husband, one friend, two daughters, and three random meetings with the same woman within four weeks. Once is chance, twice is coincidence, but upon the third meeting, even Mei in all her empirical rigidness must admit that perhaps the universe is giving her a nudge. A nudge that lands her directly in the path of Lieutenant Morgan Kelly—an affable, charming detective for the Sheriff Department’s brand-new cold case team working down the hall from Mei’s morgue.

More golden retriever than hard-boiled detective, Morgan is determined to pull the asocial widow out of her shell. As the icy scientist warms to her cheerful new friend, an irrepressible chemistry develops, and Mei begins to realize she’s perhaps a different number on the Kinsey scale than previously considered.

As Mei and Morgan struggle with guilt and grief, drama and desires, Mei finds her scientific austerity is no match for the universe and its nudges toward the startling revelation of what her heart really wants.

Pleasant surprise

Well written, superb performance. Had no expectations but was such a pleasant surprise. Look forward to future books by the author.

Great story. AMAZING narrator.

First time reading this author and hearing this narrator. Both were great. Tbh, I would listen to Cindy Kay read me the phone book. She definitely got these characters. Her voice was like a comfy sweater on an autumn day. I need more!

Perfect book with perfect narration

I loved everything about this story. The characters were unique, lovable and diverse. The dialogue was witty and the banter was superb. I truly enjoyed the cultural references and the age gap element. Cindy Kay’s narration brought the characters to life. I cannot imagine Morgan’s voice spoken by anyone else. I really hope I start seeing her name a lot more because she ranks right up there with the best of the voice actors on Audible.

Well written Lesbian Romance With Interesting Characters!

I enjoyed the storyline and both perspectives of the two main characters being provided. The story dealt with in-depth awakenings and trust issues due to abandonment as a child. The author was on point in the emotional details being conveyed to the audience a sense of loss and growth for both of the main characters. The evolution of the story and narration was enjoyable to spend some time with and escape to escape for a time.

Beyond the Blue ❤️

I expected this to be sure murder-mystery, but it's not really - and I'm not disappointed! Mei and Morgan are just 🥰❤️.

The book describes Mei as kind of an ice queen, which is not how I took her to be. She seems just set in her ways. Morgan is described as a "golden retriever," which is the PERFECT description, and I absolutely love her!! An unlikely pair, but some chance meetings prove they have quite the connection. We get taken on a stroll, that is their relationship, and it's a very beautiful ride!

And bravo to the narrator!! 👏👏👏

Great Feel Good Yet Complex Romance

I loved how these two met. A wonderful ‘meet cute’ that grew beautifully from there. Morgan was a wonderful woman and Mae brought the complexity of her culture and age to the relationship. Ruiz, Morgan’s best friend was a perfect addition to the story. The way the story was woven was captivating and kept me listening until the very end. I bought it right away to keep for future additional listening. I highly recommend this author and narrator who brought this beautiful story to life.

WONDERFUL!

I haven't even finished this yet but I felt compelled to post a review. I've been slogging through mediocre stories with abysmal narrators (what's up with that anyway? I cannot listen to a bad narrator - the voice may be fine, but jeezus they cannot read to save their lives! Who hires these people? So many titles I've purchased that are languishing in my digital library because I can't get past the first few paragraphs without my ears starting to bleed!) That's not the case with this one. Writing is intelligent and witty, characters interesting, and the narrator is a pro. Buy this one - you won't regret it.
Thank you Mses. O'Shea and Kay, for rescuing me!

Best on audiobooks

By far, this is the best audiobook I have ever listened to. The narration was perfect. The story was in-depth and not predictable in the end an absolutely beautiful love story.

The Beauty of Fool’s Gold Made Real!

Suffice to say that people wouldn’t put these two together due to the age difference, the different upbringings, the different set of social skills, the different sexual orientation, the probability of any relationship being a rebound, adult children, loss and denial. Once connected, they’re a shiny couple, but are they real? What makes them real to me is the way they communicate. I LOVE the witty banter! It’s fun and well-written! What is love without that? The romantic chemistry and fantastic narration make this a great listen! So, despite the flags on this play, there seems to be an element of fate, from the beginning, leading to an element of faith in the end.

I am happy to say there is NOT a lot of contrived nonsense in this book designed to keep the couple at odds, just good people trying to do the right thing for each other. Still, there is the realistic possibility these women will get sucked back into a place that is not safe for either of them due to legitimate trauma and loss. Family and intentional family add a great deal to this book and assist with pulling back the layers of our leading ladies and their story. No spoiler alerts but suffice to say I will always remember this line, “Life is about moving, not being moved.”

I will be looking for more books by this author. I think she has more moving words to offer us!

Trigger alert- part of the story deals with suicide but it is handled in a thoughtful manner by the author. Having said that, if you are triggered, reach out. You are not alone.
