About this listen

Book three in the wildly popular D.C. Eagles Hockey Series!

Can Ford Remington—team captain of the D.C. Eagles—forge the future he wants?

Ford’s love life isn’t non-existent, it’s just hopelessly one-sided. And the only woman he’s ever wanted—his childhood best friend, Amber—doesn’t reciprocate his feelings. So why bother dating?

When Amber’s fiancé leaves her pregnant without health insurance, she’s prepared to do it all alone—until childbirth causes complications with her heart and she needs minor heart surgery.

Ford proposes a plan: a quickie wedding, insurance for Amber and her baby girl, and two years of platonically wedded bliss.

But how will he let go when he’s not only in love with Amber but also with her baby girl who now feels like his own?

And even worse, Ford might have to walk away sooner than he ever expected…

Betrothal or Breakaway is a dual POV, fade to black romance with lots of sizzle, but no spice.

This work of fiction contains mild language, depictions of child neglect, bullying (minimal), and the death of an animal (not descriptive). If you are sensitive to these subjects, please use these trigger warnings to make an informed decision about listening to this audiobook.

Love Ford and Amber!

This is the 4th book in the DC Eagles Hockey collection and such a fun, hockey romance series!

Being a boy mom I LOVED the relationship that we get to see between all the players throughout the series. We watch their fun banter, the “how to win her over” lists, showing up to put together gym equipment or attend a college lecture, and all the love and support for their brothers in the game!

I adore the WAG group too (wives and girlfriends) - the BEST found family!!

Each book focuses on one of the guys, their growth and finding their person.

I love that the series is swoony, but closed door, making it a great series for a high schooler’s summer read!

Wow! All the Love for this Story!

*This book has been on my mind for weeks, so I could not resist listening to it again. It is one of my top favorites of the year. I just love these characters!*

I absolutely adore the books in the D.C. Eagles Hockey series. The author has crafted characters who feel so real and set them in the exciting world of professional hockey. Well, after listening to Betrothal or Breakaway, I know that Ford and Amber are my favorite characters. And that is really saying something, because each book and each set of characters has had something that captured me and made me feel connected to them. It is why this is one of my very favorite contemporary romance/romcom series. These books are sweet and closed door, with only a bit of mild language occasionally.

I loved the dual narration! The narrators really captured and brought to life Ford and Amber. This is the ultimate “he falls first” novel, too. Not only does it have the marriage of convenience and best friends to more tropes, but Ford has loved Amber since they were children. And we, the readers, get to experience some of their moments as children through flashbacks that were just the right peek into their friendship. And even though Amber didn’t see Ford in a romantic way until they were married, I liked that she wasn’t simply overlooking him all of those years. He truly was the most important person in her life and her love for him and their connection to each other through friendship was beautiful.

This book gave a peek into what Ford dealt with regarding his high functioning autism in a very realistic way. The way he approached life and the way he managed those things that overwhelmed him were part of who he was. I loved that Amber loved and understood him. They were so sweet together and their little family, with baby Nella, was wonderful to read about.

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book, although I also purchased the print version (and now also the audio and ebook versions). All opinions are my own.
