About this listen

In 1966 in Pulaski, Tennessee, Bocephus Haynes watched in horror as his father was brutally murdered by 10 local members of the Ku Klux Klan. As an African American lawyer practicing in the birthplace of the Klan years later, Bo has spent his life pursuing justice in his father's name. But when Andy Walton, the man believed to have led the lynch mob 45 years earlier, ends up murdered in the same spot as Bo's father, Bo becomes the prime suspect.

Retired law professor Tom McMurtrie, Bo's former teacher and friend, is a year removed from returning to the courtroom. Now McMurtrie and his headstrong partner, Rick Drake, must defend Bo on charges of capital murder while hunting for Andy Walton's true killer. In a courtroom clash that will put their reputations and lives at stake, can McMurtrie and Drake release Bo from a lifetime of despair? Or will justice remain hidden somewhere between black and white?

Loved the book. Wish the narrator had done some research on how to say the name of the county correctly. Giles county is pronounced with a j sound not a g sound.

Great book

The continuation of this series is really good with many of the same well developed characters. I like a story with the courtroom drama and a surprise ending.

Another good Robert Bailey book

It's not often that a sequel is better or as good as the original but Between Black and White was better than The Professor. Twists and turns all throughout the book. It's a must read!!

Better than the first!!

This novel was a great improvement over its predecessor, “The Professor”! Much deeper exploration of the characters of the three attorneys, who are not only colleagues but true friends. Intricate, dramatic and emotionally affecting plot that kept me guessing till the ultimately uplifting and satisfying end. Much less gritty sex and gratuitous violence. And the narration was outstanding!

Much better than the first book!

What a great tale! This is my FAVE Mcmurtry and Drake, so far. Bailey creates Dreadful bad guys (and women!) whom it’s fun to hate and terrifically sympathetic characters as well. Amazing, yet Totally Believable, twists, turns, and Very satisfyingly surprise endings. So much fun! Can’t help wishing, however, that he’d stop w/the near constant phrases flowing out of all his characters’ mouths that are viewed as painful blasphemies by his NON-evangelical Christian fans such as myself. Cussing fine; blasphemy no. 🥰

Luuuove Bailey’s Stories!

Incredible book! Am so very glad to have discovered this author! The narration on audio version made the book even more enjoyable

I would rate this author in same category of Michael Connelly.
