About this listen

Anna O'Brien leads a predictable and quiet life as a map librarian at the illustrious Library of Congress until she stumbles across the baffling mystery of a ship disappeared at sea. Thwarted in her attempts to uncover information, her determination outweighs her shyness and she turns to a dashing congressman for help.

Luke Callahan was one of the nation's most powerful congressmen before his promising career was shadowed in scandal. Eager to share in a new cause and intrigued by the winsome librarian, he joins forces with Anna to solve the mystery of the lost ship. Opposites in every way, Anna and Luke are unexpectedly drawn to each other despite the strict rules forbidding Anna from any romantic entanglements with members of Congress.

From the gilded halls of the Capitol where powerful men shape the future of the nation, to the scholarly archives of the nation's finest library, Anna and Luke are soon embroiled in secrets much bigger and more perilous than they ever imagined. Is bringing the truth to light worth risking all they've ever dreamed for their futures?

Although it took a bit to get used to the narrators voice, i did and it was a very appropriate voice for the story! The book is one of the finest mixes of good humour, well defined, individual and fascinating characters, real history, beautiful but not over done romance, and a narrative that at times had me tense with suspense...my first book by this author. I can’t wait for more!

Can’t give enough stars!

Historical fiction is my favorite genre. This blends history, humor, and intrigue into a romantic novel. Entertaining.

Great read!

The main characters in this book are so true to life and I fell in love with them immediately. The story is well told and in a way that leaves you feeling the characters joys and pain. The narration was perfect!

My favorite Elizabeth Camden book

Like all of Ms. Camden’s books I enjoy them all immensely. This one in particular and the one about food safety were fountains of information on these historical events. The flaws & faith in the characters rang so true for me. Christians are not perfect people, we are people who strive to follow the best example in Jesus. The line that continues to echo in my mind is “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God”.

I did not want this to end!!

Such a good story and with history abounding. Elizabeth does such great research and combines a mystery, suspense, a building romance and faith to see it all through.
The narrator was excellent and cannot wait fir the next story!

As Xe Sands is one of my all time favorite narrators, I thought the narration was exceptional, of course. Her ability to give voices to different characters and to do male voices very well helps make her a favorite for me.

Regarding the story, first and foremost, know this book is a Christian romance. There is NO mention of this in the book summary. Reading the Bible, praying, forgiveness, and faith are strong themes in the book. Well done for the genre.

There is a mystery running throughout the book as well as the attraction/romance growing between Luke, the attractive Congressman, and Anna, the principled Librarian.

It was a good story and for the most part, I enjoyed it. But, the frequent reference to their hard childhoods, sins committed against them, etc became a bit tedious for me. I am particularly sensitive to that. I personally read to escape the hardships of life. 😊

Interesting Mystery, Excellent Narration

Great Historical Fiction

I love Xe Sands and book sounded interesting. It was laboriously slow and characters undeveloped. Interesting historical fiction made dull.

My favorite narrator; slow disappointing plot.
