About this listen

Female journalists are rare in 1879, but American born Clara Endicott has finally made a name for herself with her provocative articles championing London's poor. When the backlash from her work forces a return home to Baltimore, Clara finds herself face to face with a childhood sweetheart who is no longer the impoverished factory worker she once knew. In her absence, Daniel Tremain has become a powerful industry giant and Clara finds him as enigmatic as ever. However, Daniel's success is fueled by resentment from past wounds and Clara's deeply held beliefs about God's grace force Daniel to confront his own motives. When Clara's very life is endangered by one of Daniel's adversaries, they must face a reckoning neither of them ever could have foreseen.

The Best

This book was absolutely the best! The delightful, gripping, and tender story was read by a superb narrator! I'm a tough critic, and I thought this was fabulous!!

The lady of Bolton Hill

What can I say? I really enjoyed this book. I appreciated the religious aspect which was not overbearing. The story progressed really well. The only thing I would fault is the transformation of Daniel. It seems to take place within a super short period of time and therefore felt unrealistic. The narrator was really good, her transition between characters was seamless. Overall very good book. I’m looking forward to listening to the next book.

It gets better....

I just discovered Elizabeth Camden, and I simply adore the way that she writes. The plots are so interesting you can hardly tear yourself away from her books...I felt the same way for this book....The beginning was just okay for me, but as the book progressed it just got better and better. Each character was so well thought out and intertwined within the plot it made the story quite interesting.

Get Past the Narrator for the Book is Excellent

The narrator hurts the book, but is so worth the time. Great characters, but the bad man is a bit too bad. I’m looking forward to the bad boy’s story. Read this one before Against the Tide.

No sleep because of Elizabeth Camden

This is one of the best book I’ve ever read! Tremendous story. Finished in under 24 hours because I ignored everyone and everything! (Just kidding) but I listened to it and pretended to pay attention to people talking to me. The characters come flying off the page into your head and heart. The ability Elizabeth Camden has to paint such a detailed picture in your mind is nothing short of gift. Every character is shown as human. Their good and bad sides glaring in the sun. Their struggles with what our lower law man (mankind) that lives in each of us to overcome and live in a higher law where our decisions are based on who we want to be, not who we are.

Boring and meant more for a youth

Boring and meant for a youth. I’m not sure how this book received numerous awards or is considered a romance. I couldn’t wait for the book to be over honestly and yes I’m a Christian

Loved the book but not the narrator

I couldn’t stand the performance- especially the insipid voice used for Daniel. It totally distracted from his character. I had to get the book to finish reading because it was ruining the story for me. I don’t know why women think the have to use cheesy voices for men. Please stop!

Worst

This the worst Camden book I’ve ever read and I’ve read them all now. The story was unbelievable and the narrator grated on my nerves. But I have loved her other books.
