About this listen

Having only been born at the tail end of the 19th century, Charlie Brady had never given the slightest thought of the possibility of lifeforms from another planet visiting Earth. That is until the day when such beings physically took him right off the planet. If that wasn’t traumatizing enough, those same beings repeated that same process on several other occasions. The nagging fear that he suffered on a daily basis over the possibilities of future abductions, combined with very terrestrial concerns, sent him scurrying across the United States, in hope that neither the people who were abducting from off the planet nor his Earthly fears will catch up to him. Listen to how Charlie deals with all of this.

Imaginative, Funny, Sweet

I listened to this book without benefit of following along in the book as it was read. I applaud the narrator. I cannot think anyone else could do better. The story is engaging. Although I bought this book well over a year ago, it took me forever to read it because the title sounded unappetizing. However, now that I have listened to the story, I understand why that title was used. I would recommend it to other readers as an entertaining story.

Fun, Intriguing and Captivating

Charlie Brady is a hard-working man who finds himself not only running from his angry moonshine employers but also those seven-foot-tall creatures that have taken to whisking him away on occasion.  Charlie Brady is a bit slow-witted and a back-hills sort of guy who knows when he’s in trouble. The weaving in of the flying saucer (which he calls an orange flying dinner plate) and aliens along with a missing celebrity is captivating.

Luther Guin, the author, is an impressive writer as he blends in the characters and situations.  The storyline culminates in an unexpected conclusion. Guin carefully develops the characters, and the plot relies heavily on past beliefs and myths of UFO’s drawing the listener in completely.  The aliens remind us of the nearly civilized ones described in the 1950s and 1960s.

The narrator, J J Hosenfeld delivers a noteworthy performance.  This performance draws upon a skill involving switching between vastly different levels of intelligence and demonstrating the difference not only in the words of the writer but in tone. Hosenfeld does this smoothly and without fail. His cadence is steady. His performance was incredible.

This book is a fun and intriguing listen.  The book has it all – sci-fi, humor, mystery, crime, aliens, and a talented narrator, then you will enjoy this book also.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook. It was clear and crisp.

Forrest Gump in Space?

That's actually high praise for this multi-layered Sci-Fi historical fantasy, unique novel of alien abduction. The idea is normal an early 1900's southern boy has experiences, well documented in a journal found by his descendant, that brings Roswell NM to life. Very well done and with excellent narration. Well work a credit however I got mine from Audiobooks Unleashed.
