About this listen

Vampires. Werewolves. Beasts that hunt in the night. When New Orleans Detective Jane Hart investigates her first official homicide case, she never expects to have her world ripped apart. But the murder she's investigating is part of a deadly war between vampires and werewolves and now Jane is caught in that eternal battle. A battle that can't end well.

Werewolf Aidan Locke has been running New Orleans for years. It's his job to keep the vamps out of the city. But when a Master Vampire comes to town, determined to unleash hell, Aidan knows it's time to fight with all the fury of his pack. Beast versus vamp, until the last breath. Then he meets Jane.

One look, one taste, and Aidan knows that Jane is far more than she seems. Far more than she even knows herself to be. She's important in the paranormal war, not a pawn to be used, but a queen to be won. And if he can't keep her at his side, if he can't stop the darkness from descending on the town then Jane Hart will become not just a fierce cop, not some guardian, but something deadlier. Darker. Aidan will fight heaven and hell to change her fate. To change their fate because he is more than just a predator.

And Jane is more than prey. Far more.

A decent read and narration..

I gotta’ tell ya” I wasn’t crazy about Jane, the heroine. She was TSTL. She’s upset over the death of the blood-sucking murderous Melanie Wagner and when another one turns up she wants to save her. It’s like she doesn’t even care how many people the vampire kills as long as she doesn’t die. WTH? How stupid was that. I normally love Ms. Eden’s books but sometimes she makes her heroines so stupid.

Taking away Jane’s stupidity, I really liked Aiden, Cole, Paris, Garrison, Annette, Dr. Bob, even the traitor until he chose to turn on Aiden and the pack. And, Virginia and Johnny? Wow, what a twosome. Fortunately, they both got what they deserved. But Thane was the worst! You’d have to read the book to find out what happened to him.

As much as I enjoyed the storyline I can’t see myself moving on to book 2. One book of a TSTL heroine is enough for me, and the next book is about Aiden and Jane, too. I’ve read about 15 of Ms. Eden’s books so I won’t give up on her, but I just can stand a human surrounded by werewolves and vampire talking and acting so tough, as if she can take them all on with just her measly gun. That’s what makes her TSTL.

Anyway, there really isn’t any sexual tension in this book, just Aiden talking about it once in a while, but no actual thoughts or feelings of desire or want in the story. However, there are some really explicit sex scenes.

AND there’s swearing, as well as the F-bomb being dropped 84 times.

As to the narrator: As I’ve said before I like Sophie Eastlake because she does a good male voice, and that’s good, considering how awful some female narrators suck at men’s voices. Unfortunately, Ms. Eastlake isn’t so great at doing what the book says as she reads. She doesn’t laugh or cry and only sometimes whispers, not much emotions at all. This book was narrated 5/17/16 so I would have thought she’d be better. The old narrations are mostly horrible but I expected more from the recent ones.

Enjoyed this book

Enjoyed the story. Aiden and Jane will make an interesting couple and I look forward to their journey together in the rest of the series. The villian was truly evil. The narrator did a very good job of of portraying the emotion of the story.

Great Series

I'm writing this review after listening to all three books.
It is a fantastic series and I will recommend it to everyone. It has Cynthia Eden's signature mix of mystery, intrigue and sexiness.

Jane Hart has entered into a world in which she was born. She doesn't understand her overwhelming attraction to Alpha werewolf Aidan. However, when she acts on it, it well worth the wait.

The mythology of this series makes me want it to be expanded into another series.

GOOD START TO A NEW SERIES

Cynthia Den write an interesting and action packed series. As for the performance I enjoyed Sophie Eastlake's performance and the voices for both females and males were easily distinguishable. I like the protagonists, Aidan Locke and Detective Jane Hart. They were attracted to each other despite some differences like secrets. Aidan Locke is the alpha of the weres and he does a good job protecting his pack as well the humans living in New Orleans. Detective Jane Hart is a newcomer and is hardworking and determine to make it good. Their attraction for each other was very obvious and despite some obstacles they were determine to overcome them. Very action paced and exciting towards the end of the book. I am looking forward to book 2 which I have already downloaded. I hope book 3 will be published soon.

Even Better as an Audio Book

Would you listen to Bite the Dust again? Why?

I'd previously read Bite the Dust in ebook and love it, it was even better in Audio.Aidan is as Alpha as they come, he's use to being in control, but Jane keeps him on edge. He wants her to be safe, but it is not in her nature, she wants to protect everyone even if it may cost her life. Aidan is determined to protect her even from his Pack.Throughly enjoyed this!

What did you like best about this story?

Aidan never doubted that Jane was his. He loved her and that was all he needed to know.

Which character – as performed by Sophie Eastlake – was your favorite?

Jane, she made you like her even when you knew what she was doing was going to get her hurt.

Refreshing romance

God what a refresh! I love a good romance book and I love it more when the heroine isn't a whiny brat or insecure this was the perfect combo of confidence and intrigue
