Surprisingly enjoyable (as an out of series story)

I just finished book 4. I accidentally bought book 4.5 instead of book 5. It's not the cost of a full book (cause I'm smart and I don't buy any books with credits when the $ cost is lower than the monthly cost of Audible Gold membership.) Even though I realize my mistake before I listen, I decide to give it a go anyway.

Honestly, the introduction is a bit perplexing, cause it's sort of "crazy man advertisement" in nature, and yet, it's so appropriate to the story. The story is a lot more action oriented than the standard Demon Accord series book, however, it has the standard building towards the story climax. The main character for Black Frost is strangely relatable, especially given that the character has no supernatural powers (well, maybe a slight talent but nothing major) and is facing serious weirdness-- and despite all of that, it focuses strongly on the emotional connection between humanity (especially father-daughter, father-son loyalties.)

It's kind of sad how the climax concludes, but it doesn't feel cheap or trope-like. It feels (in fact) quite fresh.

There are oddities with the invocation of the supernatural elements. (Things that don't align with my expectations of the mythology invoked) But I just let that go.

Overall, it works. And I was highly pleased with the accidental purchase (and I read from other reviews that the characters in this story are referenced in later Demon Accord series books. So on to read Book 5 and learn how this story ties into the greater story.)

In conclusion, I found Black Frost surprisingly enjoyable and am curious how this ties into the larger world.

Enjoyed story

I like the what the author did with the story, and how it was brought in the Fae.
I found the characters very well done and with enough depth to be believable.

Good book. Nice standalone

I was hoping it was a beginning of another series but sadly it’s a standalone. The book is good though. John Conroe has a natural talent of blending the supernatural with the mundane and weaves an excellent story. James Patrick Cronin is a delight to listen to. Good narration. I would strongly recommend the book.

WOW--This was such a good book 5/5

John Conroe,
I don't normally expect a lot out of a 4.5 book--It is usually just an add on--or an off part of a story.

BOY WAS I PROVEN WRONG!

YOU HAD ME HOOKED from beginning to end. I literally couldn't put the book down. I was totally devoted to the characters and absorbed in the tale--I needed to know what was going to happen next-- I will not give away any spoilers (I will not be that mean).
THIS ONE IS A MUST READ!!!!! 5/5

James Patrick Cronin--YOU are the voice of The Demon Accords for me. Great performance and portrayal of the characters John has created. Applause

Gun porn extreme

Conroe's Demon Accords series has always had a healthy dose of what I call "gun porn", but this books seems a little more over the top than previous. Maybe that's because the main character lacks supernatural powers. In any case I still found it enjoyable.
