Publisher's summary

A brutal murder in a small town...

The Civil War has just ended and world-weary Sheriff Jesse Smith likes his town quiet and peaceful. Woken one night, when the body of a young woman is found torn apart, that peace is quickly shattered as it dawns on him that a predator is among them.

Everyone is a suspect...

With little to go on, all the men in the town are potential suspects, and Jesse begins an investigation that spans across the social spectrum. Unable to find the killer, the mayor goes against Jesse's wishes and decides to bring in bounty hunters. But the cure may be more dangerous than the disease.

As another murder occurs under their noses, Jesse realizes he is outmatched and facing an evil he has never encountered. He enlists the help of an alienist from Harvard University. Someone trained in the new science of the mind. Together they are about to journey into the darkest recesses of the human soul, and they may not make it out alive...

Cowboy Heaven

You know when the last time I read or listened to a good western? Never, this addition to Mr. Methos collection is great, the voices were perfect, the story held you from the beginning. I listened to it in two days and hope there is some kind of follow up. Kudos Victor well done!!!

Gripping!

Perfect narrator for this story. His voice reminded me of the voice of Jeff Bridges. What a story! Great storytelling!

brilliant laconic voice for this western

Methos stretches his skills here with a novella set on New Mexico a few years after the Civil War. I could stand a lot fewer of his books to have serially mutilated female victims, but for once we have a tender portrait of a mature marriage, lots of gun play, gripping plot details that fooled me until the end. great and realistic dialog. highly recommended, especially for those who don't like westerns. has someone translated the parts in Apache? And ps. methos is terrible at picking titles. does he just throw a dart?

Excellent story!

The author keeps your attention from beginning to end. The narrator is on cue with each character's voice. I just love it and won't ever forget it!

A very different Victor Methos novel!

BLACK SKY, a historical novel, is set in the 1870s in New Mexico with the protagonist being the local sheriff. It's not what one expects from Victor Methos. Narration is stellar.

very good performance

I'm becoming a big fan of Victor Methos. this particular story might have benefited from fleshing out the killers background.

Not one Victor's best works.

Although I found it kind of dragging at times, I was able to finish it.

One of his best

Loved the old west setting. Excellent narrator. A must listen. Would like to have Jesse return in another story.
