About this listen

In the dead-end Canadian town of Bleak Landing, twelve-year-old Irish immigrant Bridget O'Sullivan lives in a ramshackle house and dreams of another life, even as the Great Depression rages. Routinely beaten by her father and bullied by schoolmate Victor Harrison, the waifish yet fiery redhead vows to run away and never return. Just a few short years later, run she does - fleeing the unspeakable repercussions of her father's gambling. In Winnipeg, Bridget lands a job at a garment factory, the first step on her journey to shed her past and begin anew.

When her father dies, Bridget - now a striking and accomplished woman - returns home to claim her inheritance. But she has no identification to prove her stake, and no one in town recognizes her - except Victor, who has become a pastor and a candidate for town mayor. Though war has wounded him, his secret affection for Bridget remains, and now he's the only one who can help her prove her integrity. But can he also prove he's a changed man worthy of her forgiveness?

As Victor preaches of freedom in faith, will his words spark Bridget's once-hopeless heart and lead her to the life she's been seeking?

I read each of Terrie’s books when they first came out (The Silver Suitcase ... Maggie’s War ... Bleak Landing) & decided to listen to them once more on audible. I was NOT disappointed! Each book was better than the previous & I can hardly wait to see what she comes up with next. Keep on using that creative gift, Terrie! Cheering you on from upstate NY. DM

What an exquisite piece of work! I have already purchased two other books written by Terri and can't wait to delve into them! The narrating was superb and complimented the written words. I enjoy a fresh look of how God works in our lives thru the Authors eyes in her characters circumstances.

Another good story by Terrie Todd. Twelve-year old Bridget is abused by her father and bullied so much that she vows to run as soon as she finishes school. At fifteen, her adventures began;; only to go full circle in about five years.

This book just felt so real! It reminded me of some of Siri Mitchell's books. I will be looking for more books by Terrie Todd!

I loved this story! It was so heart warming and the narrator did an excellent job.

Beautiful story

This is a great journey with the main character as she negotiates the hardships of life. The people she meets along the way consist of a wide array of interesting characters. It is a great redemption story.

It seems that the author used more narrative in this book than the dialogue she wrote in previous books. I find this less entertaining. It could be just that this narrator—while doing great characters' voices and terrific acting—uses nearly the same cadence and tone pattern for each sentence, rather than just talking with natural tones. It's a bit wearisome.

Otherwise a very good book and performance.

A wonderful journey
