About this listen

Listen to it because:

Aaron Dembski-Bowden takes an event mentioned in a Warhammer 40,000 rulebook - the Fall of Vilamus - and weaves his Night Lords characters into it, crafting a tense and dramatic tale of honour (or the complete lack thereof) amongst traitors...you'd think they'd know better that to trust one another.

The story:

Driven on by their hatred of the False Emperor, the Night Lords stalk the shadows of the galaxy, eternally seeking revenge for the death of their primarch. Their dark quest leads them to a fractious alliance with the Red Corsairs, united only by a common enemy. Together with this piratical band of renegades, they bring their ways of destruction to the fortress-monastery of the Marines Errant.

Written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Narrated by Andrew Wincott.

One of the best 40k novels continued

A continuation of one of the best Warhammer 40,000 novels. It takes off shortly after the end of Soul Hunter, and introduces a handful of new characters. Andrew Wincott's narration is easy to listen to and understand, though sometimes it can be hard to tell the characters apart by their voices, though there is usually "written" confirmation to which character says what, so it is still somewhat easy to follow. Highly recommended for any Chaos or Night Lords fan that has read or listened to Soul Hunter.

nightlords 2 improves over its previous story

in this novel aaron dembski-Bowden brings a much more coherent and focused story. the characters grow and the dynamics amongst them change by the end of the story. the only thing lacking in this novel would be what is oft lacked in these chaos themed stories a well defined end goal of the main character.

Night Lords Trilogy

Great set of books, I am on my second read through. I really love the story of the remnants of 10th claw and a possible great future for the Night Lords Legion

Hound, my beloved

Really great performance and story. Hands down the best book in the NL trilogy. Pacing was great, dialogue was really good! Mercutian and sane Uzas really get flushed out in this one. Hound is the funniest character ever. Maruc was also a really good straight man to Septimus, showing good juxtaposition to Septimus’ dour and fatalist demeanor. Octavia being a bad pilot twice was kinda lame, I get that she wasn’t the best navigator to begin with but she needed more character progression than just “oh no I’m haunted”. Giving Talos a death sentence of 1 year to live is also really good motivator for the next book where he reminds everyone that Night Lords are indeed evil.

Great follow up

Second book is in my opinion better than the first. following up a few months after the first it takes the combat and cranks them. The ends of characters are as grim as the setting suggests.
