About this listen

London. A newspaper editor is horrifically murdered, his death quickly followed by a series of more brutal and often bizarre slayings. The police are baffled, the only clear link between the murders being a single blood-red rose left at the scene of every killing. Why? What does the rose mean? What connects the killer to each bloody corpse? Scotland Yard detective Alan Winters leads a hunt for the elusive prey.

As the body count rises, Jennifer Chapman, renowned investigative journalist and daughter of the murdered newspaper editor, sets out on a personal quest for revenge. Drawn together in their pursuit of a deadly quarry, Winters and Jennifer unwittingly face a fatal surprise, for the killer is closer than they think.

As they close in on the truth of the blood-red rose, their unseen foe plots a shattering end to his reign of terror, and death awaits them all.

Interesting to a Point

The ending was much too convoluted! It was also, I think, much too contrived!

Great narrator!

I found the story somewhat winded, at times, however the narrator was awesome! Mr Murray kept me focused and I saw the events happen in my mind!

Good listen

Engaging from the very beginning . Moved along well, a little more character development would have been nice. Narration was very good. Worth a listen.

Kept Me Guessing

Very good storyline and character development. I kept thinking I had it figured out but then a new twist blows that right out of the water, only to be second guessed in the next chapter! very good narrator chosen!

Surprisingly Good

This was an audible plus selection, so I was not expecting much. The majority of books I have tried from the plus library are mediocre, but free. This book is worth a credit. The narrator was great. The story refreshing. The serial killer is revealed approximately half way through, The tension comes from the cast of characters and their interaction. All have character flaws, however, you continue to care about them. I loved the ending. PS I enjoyed the author's writing style.

Enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this story, even though I figured out who the killer was long before the end of story. My only complaint is that I had difficulty understanding Killer's motivation and how he connected to this victim. I think the author should have embellished that little bit more. However I to recommend this as a good listen..

suspenseful til the end

Overall a good suspense novel, but I didn't think the members of the news team received enough character development, somewhat confusing.

Great narrator, but UG such a sexist story

I was repeatedly annoyed by how sexist the writer is in his portrayal of all the character. Yuck. It’s a good story, but the fact that the chief detective can’t meet a woman without constantly thinking about her body and sleeping with her is gross. I wish this writer’s editors had challenged him to rewrite that relationship. It’s SO dated, and spoils a good story.

Good story

But I thought that the development of characters was a bit weak other than the 2 main characters. The narration was very good.
