About this listen

Lesbian gunslinger fights spies in space!

Three factions vie for control of the galaxy. Rig, a gunslinging, thieving rebel-with-a-cause, doesn’t give a damn about them, and she hasn’t looked back since abandoning them three years ago. That is, until her former faction sends her a message: Return what she stole from them, or her twin sister will die.

Rig embarks on a journey across the galaxy to save her - but for once, she’s not alone. She has help from her network of resistance contacts, her taser-wielding librarian girlfriend, and a mysterious bounty hunter.

If Rig fails, trillions of lives will be lost - including her sister’s. But if she succeeds, she might just pull the whole damn system down around their ears. Either way, she’s going to do it with Panache and Pizzazz.

The story of one can make a difference. My only wish was more story of June and Rig.

Awesome work by Ciel Pierrot. A universe controlled by three factions who have no mercy between them. Rig, a scientist who cut ties with her faction is on the run and fighting to free her persecuted people. When her twin sister is held by her masters she strikes out with the help of her girlfriend, a bounty hunter and a rebel leader. Marvelous narration by Stephanie Cannon.

Fabulous Universe

Overall an entertaining read … slightly predictable but still enjoyable. I thought the narrator did a really good job.

Entertaining

Rig lives in a universe in which three different factions are all jockeying for control. Originally working and living under the rule of the Pyrite regime, Rig develops schematics for a weapon that could change the course of the ongoing battle between the three factions. Rather than allow Pyrite to get ahold of the weapons and wreak havoc, Rig escapes the Pyrite home world and begins an adventure consisting of avoiding Pyrite soldiers. And that works, right up until her sister is taken hostage in a bid to force Rig's hand. Rig's twin sister had been taken hostage as a way to "motivate" Rig to turn over the schematics. It's definitely going to take more than one person to get Daara free, so it's a good thing that Rig has friends.

I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. Not only do we get Rig's story, but we get a separate story told through the Interludes, one that eventually reveals itself to be about... You know what? I'm not going to say who. Just know that it's good. Great even. The character development is spectacular, and the author also digs into the way belief in the different factions can be used and abused.

Rig's insistence on her name. Ginka's hesitancy to touch people using her empathic skills, the actions for which someone may be transgressed - the author makes sure to really dig into the emotions of the characters, even while not slowing down the action one bit.

I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK.

I split my time between reading the ebook and listening to the audiobook - mostly because I didn't want to have to put it down for something trivial like driving the car... LOL. The narrator of the audiobook, Stephanie Cannon, was fantastic. This was my first time listening to her narrate, and she had such a soothing voice that was easy to listen to, losing yourself in the story.

This is definitely a book that is going on my TBRA (To be read again) list. And that ending?! OMG! I'm STILL trying to process it, several hours later. LOL. Definitely a great book.

Can't wait to read/listen again!

Writing is pretty clunky. Story is lacking. But still overall a fun and stylish space adventure.

This book showed up on my recommendations repeatedly, so I tried it out. I started it several times, but couldn't get into it.

What a great time I had listening to this book! I really enjoyed the main characters and their very different personalities and, um, life philosophies/perspectives/viewpoints, and how these traits impacted how the story unfolded.

A classic sci-fi space romp!

Took me a bit to get invested but I loved the narration, the very distinct personalities of the characters, the friendship that blossomed, and the very wholesome romantic relationships. An excellent pick-me-up if you're having a bad day.
