About this listen

I'm Olivia Carter, a covenless witch.

Most witches have a coven. Not me. For me, the protection a coven offers does not outweigh the risk of being discovered.

I've worked odd jobs here and there peddling (mostly) legal potions I brew when I can. But when an opportunity to work for the vampires fell in my lap, I took it.

I heal the people they feed on and don't ask too many questions.

After less than six months working this gig, a girl turns up dead, drained of blood.

Of course, I am the first person the police pay a visit to. However, it's not me they want to blame it on. They want my employer. I might want to stay under the radar, but lying about murder is not something I do.

Unfortunately, my favorite vampire and best friend has been missing for a week.

To find my friend and the real murderer, I'll have to use the magic I've been hiding and hope no one finds out. That won't be easy with a coven of witches tossing fireballs at my head and a persistent detective who might be stalking me.

Borrowed Magic is a pause-resisting urban fantasy with a sassy heroine, vampires that don't sparkle, and magic that's unique and refreshing.

Action packed adventure..

This book had everything it needed to hold my interest. The ending indicates there will be more to come, I just wish it wasn't in small installments. The narration was well done and animated. I would recommend this book for a short action packed paranormal listen. I was given a free copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily decided to leave this review.

Nice teaser and intro to the series

I like this world and this book sets it up nicely. It's something along the lines of Dresden Files though in this world, the supernaturals are known about instead of hidden. IT's a world where stories can continue indefinitely as new mysteries need solving...

My problem is with the narrator, I'm afraid. She seemed to get better as the story went on (or I just got used to it), but there's a repetitive, sing-songy cadence to her reading especially at the beginning that was so prescribed I could predict the rhythm and pitch of each sentence. I almost quit listening after the first few minutes because it was so annoying, but I kept with it. And either she got better or I became so absorbed in the story that I stopped noticing.

But overall, I liked it the story, the world, and the characters.

Borrowed Magic

Olivia is a witch without a coven to protect her. She has secrets that have yet to be revealed. I absolutely love the action packed story that has you on your toes from the beginning to the end. Never really knowing who can be trusted and who can't. The vampires seem to have her back for know, but can you really ever trust a Vamp? Laurel Schroeder does and amazing job with the narration and really brings the story to life.

A bit of a rough start to the series.

Borrowed Magic is the first book Stephanie Foxe's Witch's Bite series, and it feels like it should perhaps be the 2nd book or rather that there is something missing. What do I mean? Well we jump right into the story without really getting to know the main character. I wasn't really given any reason to identify or even like her other than the fact that she was the main character. Also plenty of characters are just tossed out and talked about as if we should already know them. There is some interesting action and I somewhat decent story, but I just wish there had been more world/story/character development. As it was it felt incomplete. I saw on Amazon that people complained that it ended on a cliffhanger, and while I suppose that is true, and I don't know that I would actually say that. The main story arc felt finished to me, the 'cliffhanger' per se felt more like a way to intrigue people to keep reading the series. Just felt like a bit of a rough start to the series to me.

A Short Teaser

A short but good start to this series. It's amusing and we'll developed.
The narrator's voice is clear and her characters are easy to follow. The dialogue is done really well, but I felt the descriptive parts were a little flat at times. But still did not take away from story.

All your favourite supernaturals in one story

So, I love books about magic and vampires. this fast-paced book combines them and some other supernaturals in an exciting story that keeps you listening until the very end.
The narration is superb as always and such a joy to losten to.

Foxe can write urban fantasy with the best of them

The story is everything I wanted it to be -- a relatable protagonist, dirty magic, dangerous covens. It's really well-written and just fast-paced enough to be fun, and deep enough in characterization to be interesting. I feel like for the stellar quality, this book is extremely underrated. Now, the narrator.... *sigh* She made me want to scoop my eyeballs out for the first half an hour with her horrible clipped sentences, and monotone. Luckily, the story had me so hooked that I got used to it.

should have been labed a short story. To short to really develop a feeling for all of the characters.
