About this listen

Welcome to Myrtlewood, a quirky town steeped in magic, tea, and mystery…

Life’s a struggle for Rosemary Thorn and her teen daughter, Athena. But their regular troubles are turned upside down after Granny Thorn’s mysterious death.

Despite her cousin's sinister maneuverings, Rosemary returns to Myrtlewood and the sprawling, dilapidated Thorn Manor. There's more to the old house than meets the eye, as Rosemary and Athena soon find out—in a whirlwind of magic, adventure, mystical creatures, and endless cups of tea.

Life in Myrtlewood would be bliss if Rosemary could only clear her name in a certain murder investigation, solve the mystery and stay out of mortal peril—for at least a little while!

A small town with endless secrets, strange activities, and a house with a mind of its own.

Good book

Easy to follow, well written and relatable characters. I love a good magical book with mystery and this has it. Looking forward to more from the collection.

Good but…

Overall good. Like the voice actor, but the pacing of the story at times is bad as it the obnoxiousness of the teen daughter.

Calming

Delightful and calming to listen to. An excellent story line. I can't wait to listen to the next book.

One of my favorite series!

I loved this book, and listened to it all in one go! I got frustrated with them and celebrated with them and was startled with them. Such a wonderful ride, and I picked up the second book immediately!

Terrible Narration

The narration is horrible! The concept of the book is okay. Sometimes the characters are just boring. I had higher hopes for the use of my credit, a bit disappointing in all honesty.

Didn’t love it or hate it

Just overall meh. I sped it up a bit but honestly just found my mind wandering while listening, it never really captured my attention. I wanted to love it.

Absolutely charming listen!

The narration was wonderfully done! I’m very excited for book two. It was a joy listening to the ladies growing into who they were meant to be and during that time they grew closer as a mother/daughter team. That ending though!!! OMG!! What a cliffhanger!

Enchanting and lighthearted

Myrtlewood is just the place to escape the reality of life. The characters are charming and this first book in the series provides context and the history needed for the reader to fully appreciate and understand the motives of the characters. There are a few questions left unanswered by the author, but I’ve already reserved Experimental Magic, book two in the series, so that strategy obviously works!

I wanted to like this.

The narration was very poorly executed. There was no clear delineation of characters, and that became confusing. The breathing was distracting as well. The onset of each new line seemed to have a labored expulsion of breath that had no relevance to the content. I’m very sorry because I think I could have enjoyed the story.

absolute perfection!

I look forward to sitting in the school pickup line every school day. It is so easy to get lost in the imagery and characters. Highly recommend.
