Fantastic Selection of Writing!

This book of short stories was an incredible sample of the author's excellent writing skills! And making it even better was the brilliant combination of the narrator with the stories. A perfect match for an outstanding audiobook experience.

Fantastic narration! Fantastic stories! This is one happy reader! I highly recommend the magic of listening to this on audible.

Effectively disturbing collection of stories

Each tale has its own brand of twisted in this collection. I wasn’t surprised by the stories I liked best: the first one (I can’t seem to find the names now that I’m not listening), the Prologue one w elves (I love fantasy), Room for Rent, & asylum. While you sleep thoroughly creeped me out, & the narrator did a fantastic job of bringing Tom to life. This was a great collection to listen to in the night before Halloween.

Twist and turns everywhere you look.

This book had tons of different stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat and often wondering what will happen next! Great listen as well, enjoyed the voice actor who narrated this book. His talent at changing his voice for each short story was just what this book needed.

Excellent Listen

This is an exquisite series of short stories penned by James Fuller and narrated by Adam Shults. I have not finished the audiobook yet but felt compelled to review based on just a few of the stories.

In a word they are tremendous. I was immediately pulled in to the lovers world of light and dark in "Placement of the Stars". The fit of the British narration to the fluidity of the prose was absolutely perfect.

I listened to the next story "The Ride of a Life Time", a little unsure as car racing is not sometihng in which I'm generally interested. This story knocked my socks off as it drew me in and brought me along for the journey. I was very impressed by the narrator's ability to make this feel just like the separate story it was.

"Shadow Well" was again, not a genre that typically crosses my radar, but the writing and the narration put me in that western land with such ferocity and completeness that I really felt like I was there in their world. Again the writing and narration fit hand in glove, with the western accent and female characters being included seamlessly.

I'm starting the next story and have no doubt I will enjoy it as much or more than the first three. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes great writing and narration.

Modern, Varied, and Catchy

I first started listening not aware it was a group of short stories and I was pleasantly surprised. I normally go for longer novels, but the stories were so varied in genre and had so many lifelike qualities that they kept me listening and looking forward to the next story.
Heavy on the romantic storyline with some mystery and western and fantasy themed stories. Liked them all and would recommend them to anyone looking for a collection of short stories. Definitely worth the listen.
The voicing kept the characters alive and active and engaging. Some of the female voicing was difficult for me, but otherwise excellent.

Quiver Count: 0

“Broken Shards of a Masterpiece” is a small collection of stand-alone stories. That being said, it is recommended to read/listen to the stories as they are presented. My two favorites were “Judas Kiss” and “Room for Rent” as both were pretty easy to get lost in, and I wished there was more to both of them.

There was one story in particular that started out a bit rough, but I’m very glad that I stuck with it. As it was a very misleading story, and there was a twist that I did not foresee, the ending was a satisfying reward.

Something else that deserves a mention, is that the last short story was not written by Mr. Fuller, but his wife. Despite being authored by another, the story fits in, and rounds out, the entire collection. In fact, it would not be surprising to find that it’s a reader’s favorite.

Despite the brevity of these stories, Mr Fuller manages to create realistic, if gritty, settings. The characters are powerful, and they do bring out an emotion, or two, from the reader....even if it’s not necessarily a positive emotion (^.-) .

Now this part of the review is about the audio alone: Mr. Adam Shults was really hit or miss for me. There were parts where his voice really made the story come alive for me...and in other parts...not so much. It seemed like he was trying a bit too hard to add gravitas to stories that were more scenery-based. The stories that focused more on dialog were much better.

Amazing.

What a great book to listen to while ubering! immediately James paints a picture with his words making sure you see it as if you were watching a movie. At first i thought this book was gonna be like most but when i reached the 2nd chapter i was confused only to realize that every chapter was a new story! i thought that was great and a lot of the chapters i wish he would make into full books! as far as performance this is nothing on james writing skills but more for adam shults who read the book there were 2 chapters that i was in love with how he read them particularly when they were female characters... aside from 2 of those chapters this is a great read especially when youre on the road!!

Impressive

I don't listen to a lot of Audible s, but I'm impressed. This collection of shorts was captivating and for me, it reminded me of some of SK's short stories. Fuller needs more appreciation. I believe, I'm going to find some more of his writing and give it a go. I like to be surprised, shocked, a little off kilter
