A tale doesn’t need to be long to be good

The story of brood company is one that would have made a great mini movie on the sci-fi channel. It’s not long but it’s good. Just enough background and character building to invest you in the story before dropping the plot on you like a rock.

Military Science Fiction with a twist

💥💥💥💥💥 Five bangs.

Reminded me of Alien.

Not like it ripped off the movie.

Just a reminder of it.

Decent story, not crazy about narrator

I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was easily my least favorite book in the Tri-Star System Story series so far, and I believe most of that was due to the narrator selected for this short story.

Overall, this story was fairly engaging if a little predictable. There were slight twists at the end of the previous two stories or some kind of element of horror, but I saw this ending coming a mile away. Despite that, I do think this story was interesting and still had slight elements of horror (well, horror for me, but maybe not for others). It's just that this story could have really benefited from being longer. There were plenty there to work with and I just felt that it was all over too quickly.

The biggest knock against this book was the narrator, Raymond Kallai. He wasn't horrible, but for a story that relies a lot on tension and suspense he just didn't have enough depth. Dreadnaught sounded the same whether he was excited, scared, or just contemplating. It got to the point where my mind often drifted from the story because the cadence was so even.

I've really enjoyed this series so far, so this won't keep me from listening to the next volume. Hopefully, the selected a really engaging narrator for it.

So different

I love how each story in this series is so different! This one follows a soldier and it's like a really good B-Movie from the 80s. Love it.

Glorious B movie Scifi

If you've read any of these books, you know that they are kind of campy. I get the impression that's purposely done. This one is no different, it reads like a fantastic 80s Military Scifi movie.

Short Story

I really liked this even though I haven't read the books before this and how short it was. It was easy to follow along to, suspenseful, good narration.

confusing

I thought this had an interesting premise. I didn't realize going into this that it's the third book in the series (which is completely my fault). It's not listed as the third book in Goodreads. That really took away from my enjoyment, and made things more confusing. I didn't really know any of the characters, so the big thing that happens wasn't a huge emotional impact on me like it was supposed to be. I plan on reading the first two books at some point, then rereading this to see if I comprehend more, and like it better.
