About this listen

Seth is laid off from work. His wife Lara just found out they are expecting a baby this summer. Seth plans on documenting the entire pregnancy with his brand new digital camcorder.

During an evening home watching television, the news reports that a swarm of cicada (Brood Ten) are expected to overwhelm the entire Northeast.

Brood Ten is vicious and ready to invade.

During a sweltering summer night, Brood Ten emerges and wreaks havoc with the electric grid, phone and cell service, WiFi, food and water supply. Civilization as they know it is gone.

Seth and Lara are thrown back to the stone age in their own home with trillions of cicada trying to deposit their eggs and breed. Fast paced and filled with tension, Brood Ten is the perfect summer read when you're sitting outside listening to the cicadas sing.

Would make a great movie!

This was a quick read, that seemed like it could have originally been a screenplay for a movie, and it would have probably made a pretty good movie!.

Our main character Seth, an out of work husband and father to be along with his pregnant wife Lara downplay an on coming Cicada Brood emergence that is heralded by scientists as a once in a few 1000 year event that will cripple the American New England area in an apocalyptic infestation of abnormally large and aggressive Cicada brood.

Fast paced, and well written characters and story keep you engaged until the very end. A 4 out of 5 star read.

A scarily plausible story

A thrilling and hair raiseingly plausible story of disaster caused by an every bug that's a common inhabitant of every North American's summer. You never give a second thought to it as you hear the Cicadas mating calls, but you will after reading this book. There is no weird mutation or metamorphosis but that little bug becomes a life threatening plague by just emerging a bit larger and in numbers just too vast to handle. The scary reality of mans ineffectiveness when natures takes hold is highlighted very well in this story. Though a little slow in the beginning, it soon picks up the pace and keeps you turning the pages. It is chilling, scary, suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat, as you follow Seth and Lara as they and their friends battle to survive. The deep voice of the narrator fits the male protagonists well and is also able to do believable female voices too. It is a well written, entertaining story, with engaging characters and a plot that not only freaks you out but that, once you get into it, you won't be able to put it down. I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review
