Publisher's summary

The Thames is London's most important yet neglected artery. When a young woman is found chained to a post in the tide, no one can understand how she came to be drowned there. That's only part of the problem. Bryant's deteriorating condition prevents him from handling the case. To make matters worse, May makes a fatal error of judgment that knocks him out of action.

In an adventure that's as twisting as the river, will there be anything left of the Peculiar Crimes Unit when it's over?

Wonderful series

Would you consider the audio edition of Bryant & May - Strange Tide to be better than the print version?

Don't know as I haven't read any of them.

What did you like best about this story?

The interplay between the characters as it is in each book of the series.

Which character – as performed by Tim Goodman – was your favorite?

Bryant, as always.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

You won't know until the end.

Any additional comments?

I love this entire series and think the narrator, Tim Goodman, does a wonderful job. In most mysteries the "perp" is easily figured out but not in this series.

Incredible! You will live what happens!

I rarely read books but I would give this much more than five stars if I could!
The mystery will keep you guessing he won't see it coming! And the way they handled the situation with Arthur is just great the best of everything with this one you will love it!

Welcome back Bryant and May!

Any additional comments?

The boys are back and are most welcome! Thank you Christopher Fowler for creating these wonderful characters and thank you Tim Goodman for bringing them to life. Having left Arthur Bryant last time on a bridge over the Thames, it is fitting that this story’s journey through the labyrinth of London is on that very river, coursing through the heart of the city. The plot is full of the usual twists with seemingly unconnected bits slowly being fitted together. In this one, the plot didn’t quite grab me quite as much as in past books but to be honest it isn’t the intricate plotting as good as it is that draws me to this series - it’s the characters and their interactions, the feeling and the humor, and what I learn about London and many arcane subjects. There are some interesting developments for the characters in this book and Fowler has managed to deal with the situation remaining from the last book in a very clever way. I am always entertained and enlightened by a Bryant and May book and this one is no exception. Bryant and May are delightful. More please.

A fine mystery amid the hilarity

Although not the best of the series certainly near the top. What makes B&M so much fun are the in between scenes. Fowler doesn’t drag the mood down with lame soap operish subplots instead the mystery becomes secondary to the dialogue and character interactions. Just a pity he is a religious bigot.

Another great story

Christopher Fowler is a real craftsman.
And - I usually prefer print books, but Tim Goodman’s Arthur Bryant is as perfect as Leo McKern’s Horace Rumpole (and that’s going some).
Thanks to both of you for another tense, engrossing and hilarious tale.

for English History fans

The Peculiar Crimes Unit of the London Met is always a favorite of mine. I did enjoy English History/Lit so this book is a fine slow read of modern murder and ancient ritual. Not the usual who done it but a mystery deserving it's own shelf.

Strange Tide - Bryant & May

Another great by Christopher Fowler. Hate for these books to come to the end. Thank you so much for the insights to Dickens, for the LOL lines so perfectly placed and for a good mystery. Thanks to Tim Goodman for another perfect performance. Guess I will have to re-listen from book one until a new book comes out.

Not what I ordered!

I was listening to this and a discussion about social media and other 21st century things happen. I was not that invested to start again or give it another try.
