Self reflection at its best

Enjoyable and emotional on many levels. Not just for EMS folks, but for everyone.

Extremely Insightful

Chad chronicles much of his time and experience with Fire and EMS in his book. From before he was a Rookie, all the way up through being a seasoned leader. I appreciate the personal trials he relates to and am still taken back by the things I never knew about a brother I worked with for a few years.
I am grateful for his courage to share it all, for everyone to read. I enjoyed reading about the memories and stories of fire station life, the lessons it teaches, and the raw emotion he experienced. He dives deep into the fears of a failed healthcare system, failed leadership, extreme personal tragedy, and also shines light on some amazing leaders and brotherhood along the way. Its a great ride I had to take with him in this book! And, I was lucky enough to experience a couple moments of it in person.

An honest and amazing story of passion, love, loss, and perseverance!

This book is an amazing, eloquent, and raw look at the American fire service. Having worked with Chad, I know a lot of the people and stories that are presented in this book. His ability to tell his and his family’s story, the ups and downs, the good and the bad, is a true insight into the urban fireman’s life. I laughed, I cried, I empathized, and understood every chapter in this book. It is absolutely one the best books I’ve read in years. Thank you Chad for your sharing your successes, failures, insecurities, personal tragedy, and most of all your vulnerability. I strongly recommend this book for all of our brothers and sisters on the front line.

Amazing: truly from the heart!

From the start I could not put this book down… it’s the true thoughts and feeling told by one paramedic but the reality of many!!! It raw and at times ugly but it’s great and probably as close to understanding the first responder as you will get with out becoming one!!! I highly recommend!!!

A true life experience that read like a story

A peek into a life my daughter has recently chosen. Funny and tragic. Such is life. Thank you for sharing.

Rollercoaster of Emotions

I’ve read a lot of things through life. As a ER nurse and as a former friend, this book allowed me to resonate in ways many books have not.

I laughed, I cried, I felt anger, and I felt uneasy are just a few of emotions this book brought out. One of this book’s powerful message to me is that as a passionate emergency nurse we need to do better at caring for the caregiver when our pre-hospital colleagues bring us a patient to care for. Both sides, pre-hospital and ER personnel have a high stress job. We need to build better relationships together and all it takes is being a kind human.

To leadership that reads this book I hope it helps you to use your title for the better good. To be a leader that leads with good energy and intentions and whose outcome is shown by improved working conditions and improved mental health of your employees.

The Brutal Honest Truth of what the job will do to you

As a Former Part time Co-worker of the Author I felt like I was right there with him as the Narrator read the book. It was so surreal I suppose since I have worked side by side with one of his mentors he often refers to. Captain Bostic is a bull of a man and will go up to bat for you and give you the shirt of his back I truly believe that. While I never had the chance to work alongside The Author only getting to give him turnover once before he moved on. listening to his writings made me feel better and know that so many of us deal and go through really tough times in this line of work. It changes you mentally period. Awesome read.
