About this listen

You don’t need to feel alone in parenting. You don’t need to feel like you’re failing. And you definitely don’t need another parenting book filled with theoretical advice about theoretical children. You need actual parenting help from an actual parent. It’s time to feel confident in your parenting.

Susie Allison, creator of the massive online community Busy Toddler, is a breath of fresh air. With her humor and engaging personality, she helps parents find their footing, shift their perspective on childhood, and laugh at the twists and turns of parenting we all face. (Yes, it’s okay that your child licked a shopping cart - they pretty much all do that.)

In Busy Toddler’s Guide to Actual Parenting, Susie gives the achievable advice she’s known for around the world, from daily life and #beingtwoisfine to tantrums and tattling and teaching the ABCs. The book also includes more than 50 of her famous activities that have helped thousands of parents make it to nap time - FYI, the popsicle bath is a game-changer.

Susie shares real moments raising her three kids as well as her professional knowledge from eight years as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher. Her simple and doable approach to parenting will leave you feeling so much better!

Let Susie give you the actual parenting advice you need.

Always helpful to get some food for thought for parenting. Obviously parenting is a commitment and requires time and effort - I wonder if not having the capacity (eg as a single mother or working long hours) would make some parents feel more guilty they aren’t delivering for their kids. This would work for families with a full time parent with at least average material means I think. Some good tips in Chapter 19

Narration filled with genuine emotion, told by someone like you and me. Makes me want to go and purchase some rice for a sensory bin...

Finally a REAL parenting book. A lovely surprise!

Listening to this book I was a little iffy if I would get anything out of it since my little one is almost 5. Well, let me tell you I got so much! Sensory bins have saved me mentally, I was never a fan but decided to try it again. The first day between the bin and then “cleaning” the toys we used it was over three hours of play. ❤️❤️ Her tips are amazing and I feel I need to re listen and take notes for the last couple of chapters.

Loved this book! Finished it in just over a day. Experienced the full range of emotions in that time too. But that's part of being a mom now too, right? I'm so looking forward to putting her suggestions into practice.

Loved it!

First of all she has a great speaking voice that is easy to hear and understand. Always a plus! She helps you to empathize with your toddler in a loving way, and her techniques and simple and easy to apply.

I loved the audiobook! I follow Allison’s busytoddler Instagram account and it is great to hear her sense of humor come through the text and audio.
I recommend this book for anyone with a toddler who is either looking for support or reaffirmations. I’ve read other parenting books, and only thing I wished there was more on this one was on avoiding toddler tantrums (which is not really the proposal of the book). All in all Allison really speaks to my heart and mind on how to raise kids, such as by emphasizing the importance of play for kids as their only job. I’ll definitely re-read again when my tabby is a bit older.

Fun book
