About this listen

Paul was reading a newspaper. Catherine was reading a novel. So begins Room on the Sea, André Aciman's scorching and elegiac love-story about a middle-aged man and woman who meet in the bullpen of jury selection and spend a sultry summer’s week trespassing ever further into each other's hearts.

What begins as a flirtation quickly evolves into something deeper, something Paul and Catherine must carry on in secret - and with the understanding that anything more than a casual crush is out of the question. But as the week draws to a close, the end of their rendezvous comes into focus, and Paul and Catherine are forced to decide whether to act on their feelings or leave the fantasy of what could have been to the annals of the past.

By turns scintillating and philosophical, Room on the Sea is a compulsively listenable story of love, fate, and last chances.

Sweet. Touching. Relatable.

Something about this story struck a chord with me. Maybe because I’m at a certain age where I long for an experience such as this. I want to know what happens next…

Worth the Read

A lovely story of imaginary thinking. Jeff Daniel's gentle voice sweetens each line taking away the need for more.

Excellent !

The story is wonderful and I want to know more about these people! They were so real, intelligent and interesting. Jeff Daniels was perfect. I hate it when a man tries to ‘read’ in a female voice. He didn’t do that and it was much more enjoyable to listen to. Bravo!

Very wordy

There is a nice romance buried beneath mountains of rambling dialogue. Good narration, although no attempt made to differentiate male/female character voices.

Short and entertaining read

This book was good but I left wanting more from the author. Enjoyed the narration by Jeff Daniels.
Good beach read, train ride, or just relaxing read when you have 2 hours to kill.

Outstanding

Beautifully written and performed in such a low key way, the narrator never intruding. Perfect approach. Loved every minute.

Little choices to make the leap

The story was well written and performed. All the small choices we make every day, leads to the leap of infidelity. This was personally insightful, as my father was a “cheater” and I never really understood the appeal. Now I know an accumulation of intentional actions, allow for the leap. Enjoy!

Beautiful love story

Andre Aciman uses words as if adding spices to a dish. As a 70 year old woman, he captures quite accurately the feelings of knowing love, having lost love and the rare opportunity of finding love again.
I throughly enjoyed this short story.
Jeff Daniels is brilliant as a reader!

Wonderful

I loved everything about this offering. I finished it in one sitting. Jeff Daniels adds the perfect tone and texture to this warm, rich story of two strangers who meet in the jury duty room and form a deep, meaningful connection. A joy to read about adults , (old enough to have retirement conversations) in such an honest way.
Felt like a soft, warm blanket on a cold day.

a bit confusing

I struggled to continue with this book after Wednesday. I wasnt sure where the plot went & mostly kept it as a background noise during my lunch at work.
