About this listen

What if you could edit memories with a single touch?

The world-that-was is gone, lost to everything except living memory . . . but remembering comes at a terrible price. Sixty-two years after the apocalypse, a new society has emerged from the ashes of the old world where highly valued memories are traded and nostalgia is worth dying—and even killing—for.

Enslaved by a cruel master, Sephone Winter is forced to use her rare ability to manipulate memories to numb the darkest secrets of the ruling aristocracy.

Then Lord Adamo appears, speaking of a powerful relic capable of permanently erasing memories and recovering Sephone’s own lost childhood. But not everything about the young lord is as it seems, and soon Sephone must choose between helping Lord Adamo forget his past or journeying deep into the land of Lethe, where the truth about who she really is might finally be revealed . . . and a long desired future restored.

The Nightingale Trilogy is a fantasy transformation of Hans Christian Andersen's beloved 1843 tale The Nightingale, with echoes of the myths of Hades and Persephone.

Excellent tale with amazing descriptions

Fischer had a way of painting the story that made it feel so alive to me. I felt like I was there. She created this world that was different than my reality but I became so immersed that it felt like my reality. I loved her descriptions and the way the narrator read them as well. It was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will go on to book 2 now. :)

One Content Warning for those that want it: there are occasions where drugging someone occurs. There is no sexual assault. But having that in one’s past makes you mighty nervous when you hear something similar happening and when there are unchoice men around made me more nervous it might happen. I’m very glad it didn’t. Early in the book, sexual assault is mentioned as having happened at the hands of powerful men but again, no details and not actually happening in the story… just revealing the poor character of a man by mentioning his evil past. Just wanted others with past abuse to know no bad sexual situations actually happen. I wish I had known that so I could have rested a bit more instead of worrying as I listened.

Phenomenal Story!

This is a perfect book to read in the winter. It's got a cliffhanger ending so I'm anxiously anticipating Lumen. The magic system is really fascinating and curious. I can't pinpoint why I didn't want to put this down. There was just enough tension and drama to keep me hooked through the whole thing. It's got much heavier themes than the YA books I tend to read, but it's truly hope-filled in the face of the worst kinds of pain. It's got epic villains and heroes and a spectacular journey. Honestly, it's got everything I love in a good Fantasy book. I can't recommend it enough.

Stacey Glemboski might be one of my new favorite narrators. Her voice was perfect for this story. This is close to the most engaged I've felt while listening to an audiobook.

We’ll done.

Really good! Felt like the first third of a really long book. I guess that’s why it’s a trilogy. Worth listening and looking forward to the next in the series.

Oh My! What a series opener!

This book is really great and the narrator is fabulous. To say I can’t wait for the next book is more than an understatement. Characters are complex, the setting quite unique, the intrigue and unfolding of this story were so calculated I actually immediately listened to this once more! It was even better the second time. I know without a doubt I will want to listen to this one again and am almost counting down to the next installment. Well done to both Author and Narrator!
