About this listen

The Future Never Sleeps

In the glacial nation of Norgard, Jolan the Dream Teller serves every seeker, whether peasant or high lord. Though she loves using her gift, she struggles to navigate the corrupt and dangerous court and the jealousies of the Guildagard.

When an old man’s nightmare imparts a dire warning, Jolan realizes her entire nation is in danger. But before she can sound the alarm, she is betrayed by the guilds and sold into slavery in a rival kingdom far to the south. As a slave in a foreign land, at first Jolan can’t see beyond her singular focus: return home to warn Norgard of the coming calamity. After facing new dangers, making new friends, and forgiving old wrongs, she must fulfill the purposes the Provider has set before her.

Only then can she face a decision that could cost her the man she loves, her calling, and her freedom—all to save a people who abandoned her.

Beautiful and Imaginative

What a wonderful story! I already liked this author but I was even more excited when I saw that Stacy Glemboski was the narrator. This is an unbeatable combination. The story was heart wrenching and hopeful.

A Brilliant Heart-felt Fantasy

I've enjoyed everything I've read by Sharon Hinck. Dream of Kings is not only not an exception to that rule, but it by far surpassed my expectation. I loved the connection to the Biblical story of Joseph from Genesis. Probably because that's one of my favorite Old Testament accounts. The characters and world were vividly fleshed out. I highly, highly recommend this book.

Enthralling Tale with Familiar Overtones

I love stories with hints of familiar tales. Revisiting stories we know, but placing them in unique settings with vibrant characterization often forces renewed appreciation. King of Dreams is a beautiful story that explores the themes of trust, unique placement where gifts are best used for God's purposes, and forgiveness. I loved the raw honesty in Hinck's tale, and Jolan is a compelling, vulnerable but ultimately strong protagonist.

Jolan is a Dream Teller in the glacial land of Norgard, a favorite of the High Lord and His Lady. She has the gift of ascertaining dreams and their interpretations. Her gift is given by the Provider, but when jealousy among guild factions result in a cruel betrayal, Jolan is enslaved to the foreign nation of Sabar. Hardships, evil plots and poison, (literal and metaphorical), lurk around every corner. Can Jolan truly trust the Provider? What is His plan, and will she ever be allowed to return home?

Dream of Kings is a complex book with a vivid world. I loved the descriptions of the different peoples, especially the Lanoli people, whose changing eye colors reflect their emotions. The complex characterization was also a favorite part of the book. Each character is complex and vivid. I particularly loved Kaymore, a valiant and strong man whose fierce loyalty to the Creator and Sabar is quite beautiful. My favorite character is Perry, a young Wildon boy with a steadfast trust in his Provider despite his harrowing circumstances.
The themes explored in King of Dreams are so beautiful, and Hinck's ability to illustrate the hardships experienced by her characters as well as joyous moments make this a tale to cherish. I will not reveal what Biblical narrative this book is based upon, (although parallels will immediately be apparent to readers), I will say that the setting and immersive plot will keep readers glued to the pages. It was impossible for me to put this book down. I loved experiencing one of my favorite Biblical accounts in a different way.

Stacey Glemboski is a superb narrator! She infuses the nnovel with vibrant life and portrays the characters with energy and joy. I especially loved her portrayals of the sinister Duke Ket, the aristocratic Queen Lily and the small but mighty lonoli woman named Pito. I also loved the emotions she brought to Jolan's character and the wisdom she infused into the voice of Kaymore. I hope to listen to more books read by her in the future. Glemboski is a gifted narrator and makes this listening experience a true delight.

Favorite Quote from the Book: "The Creator is gladdened by our obedience, but he delights in our love" (Chapter 20).

King of Dreams is a spiritually convicting, exciting and profound read. I thoroughly recommend this beautiful story to anyone who loves adventure tales, stories of self-discovery and Biblical narratives explored through unique ways.
Happy listening, and God bless you all.
