Book 2 of the series

Caramels with a Side of Murder by Meredith Potts is book 2 in the Daley Buzz Mysteries Series. This book pretty much leaves off where book 1 Chocolates with a side of murder leaves off. This time Sabrina is taken by her best friend to visit Miss Terry the town psychic. Miss Terry tells Sabrina her sister will be found, but gives her no more information. The next morning Sabrina heads back to ask Miss Terry more questions. Instead of talking to her she finds Miss Terry dead.

David, Sabrina's cop boyfriend is on the case to solve the murder. Sabrina weasels her way into investigating the murder as well.

I personally do not like Sabrina or David. They interrogate everyone as if they had evidence they were guilty, instead of no evidence at all. I felt so bad for the poor son and sister. The way the 2 went after them was just shameful, but yet they were so easy on the boyfriend. They have no evidence on anyone so everyone is considered guilty until proven innocent.

When Sabrina runs into Melissa from book 1 who she accused of murder. I wanted to slap Sabrina when she got all huffy when Melissa does not accept her apology. She only apologized to try and get info on someone anyway.

I do think David should be taking the lead on the investigation instead of standing back and letting Sabrina do it. If Sabrina wants to be a cop maybe she should go to school and get her badge.

I think if the characters were a bit more likable I would enjoy this series more. The story lines are good. The mystery is really good and leaves you waiting until the very last pages. That I really like. I don't really like knowing within the first few chapters who the murder is.

Lisa Beacom narrates this audiobook. I do prefer her narration over book ones narration with Lainie Pahos. She does very well with the character voices and kept my attention better.

Caramels as Brain Food?

Caramels as Brain Food?

Or caramel truffles. I missed book one in this series so don't know how the detective hooked up with the barista but she is proving to be quite the investigator. Lisa Beacom's narration does justice to the tale and its protagonists. A fun, high sugar & caffeine nibble--good thing e-calories don't count! But be aware cliffhanger details persist.

New Narrator

So with this book I was hoping to get more on the subplots from the last book. Unfortunately we don’t see much about the mansion or missing sister 😦 I was really hoping to uncover more on that side than was in this story. I get that the author wants to tease it out, but I feel like it’s being watered down for the mystery of this story. Again Sabrina really surprises me with her forcefulness. She apologizes to people, but then turns around and starts accusing again with this new murder. You should and can have suspicions, but they should be founded and you shouldn’t be shouting them in public, because what if you’re right? Then the murderer will get you too! Her boyfriend makes less sense as he is a police officer and shouldn’t be doing some of the things that Sabrina is having him do with her in terms of investigations. So for me the story is about a 3.5/5 stars. I see potential, especially with this new subplot of men having secret meetings lol. Please give us more though in the next book!

So the narrator changed for this second book. She doesn’t have too much of a different voice, so I didn’t exactly notice it at first, until I really stared at the cover of my audiobook when I was listening, then I saw. I feel like she did a better job than the last narrator. And actually was going to praise the narrator for improving haha, but since this is a new person I won’t be doing that. Beacom does well with characters and I could tell who was talking even with the same gender! I really liked the way she read the story, it felt more relaxed. I give the narration a 4.5/5.

Excellent read/listen

Caramels With a Side of Murder, My thirty-first read from author Meredith Potts and the second in the Daily Buzz Mystery Series, Longer, at 181 pages, than many of the author's books I've read. Well-written & enjoyable. another cute, clean cozy mystery. I was been given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Lisa Beacom’s talented narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Not a terribly realistic mystery

Maybe I missed something not reading book one but I don't know how this coffeehouse owner was able to play detective while her detective boyfriend practically lets her take over his investigation. Also, they both came off as pushy and somewhat hostile while trying to get information from suspects. In addition to that, there were too many repeated phrases in here, such as "wrinkling her forehead", "scrunched his nose" or "widening his eyes". There were so many of these types of phrases they became distracting. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great Book!

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. The narrator did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

Caramels with a side of murder

The Story:
I was intrigued from book one as to what had happened to her sister, and in this one Sabrina visits a Psychic who tells her “Your sister will be found!” – great insight but then the psychic winds up dead (bet she never saw that coming!) and Sabrina is left not only reeling from that little piece of information but up to her sleuthing tricks in order to catch Miss Terri’s killer.

Again she came off as pushy when questioning “suspects” – why people still chose to open up and speak to her is beyond me. She actually makes a point of trying to apologise to Melissa (who she rips apart in book 1) and wonders why her apology isn’t met with heartfelt gratitude. As a character I really dislike Sabrina, but I am hooked on the background story line of her sister. Though I am not sure how ,much the author is going to give us in each book (as far as I am aware there are 10 books so far in this series)

The Narrator:
This book was voiced by Lisa Beacom, and whilst at first I did not take to her voice as I had not long finished the audio for Chocolates and was used to that actors voice, I feel she was a better fit once I got accustomed to her instead. She was better at male voices though not quite 100% there for me, the narration flowed well and she made the distinction between the characters easy.

A goof mystery for an afternoon read

I really enjoyed this book. It has murder, mystery, and psychic. Sabrina's sister was missing not knowing if she was alive or dead. Sabrina is urged by Shannon to visit a psychic called Miss Terry. Once there Miss Terry tells her she will find her sister. Sabrina wanted to know more so decided to go back to Miss Terry only to find the dead lifeless body of Miss Terry. Needless to say she ends up being a suspect and must find the real killer.

The narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life and pulling the reader/listener into the story.
