Charlie Joe Jackson may be the most reluctant reader ever born. And so far, he’s managed to get through life without ever reading an entire book from cover to cover. But now that he’s in middle school, avoiding reading isn’t as easy as it used to be. And when his friend Timmy McGibney decides that he’s tired of covering for him, Charlie Joe finds himself resorting to desperate measures to keep his perfect record intact.
This is the hilarious story of an avid non-reader and the extreme lengths to which he’ll go to get out of reading a book.

Where does Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
For children's literature, this was one of my favorites I've read in the past several months. The narrator really made the character come alive. I avoided this one at first because the title and cover made me think it would be too juvenile. However, the story turned out to be witty and kept my interest. I teach middle school and will definitely recommend this book to my students. What other book might you compare Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading to and why?
It made me think of Holling HoodHood in The Wednesday Wars (by Gary D. Schmidt)...funny story, but you find yourself nodding in acknowledgment with the thoughts of Charlie Joe, and then laughing at some of his "rules" and observations.Which character – as performed by MacLeod Andrews – was your favorite?
Definitely Charlie Joe Jackson... the essense of a smart kid with clever observations about life. He's the underdog that you will root for.Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, but to write it would cause this to be a spoiler for those who haven't yet had the opportunity to enjoy the story!Any additional comments?
MacLeod Andrews definitely took an already good story and made it great. It makes me want to find other books narrated by him.Laugh Out Loud with an A+ Narrator
