About this listen

NAACP nominee and USA Today best-selling author Beverly Jenkins continues her beloved Blessings series with a heartwarming novel about what really makes a family.

There's never a dull day in Henry Adams, Kansas.

Tamar July has never had a great relationship with certain members of her family. In fact, she'd characterize it as a "hate/hate relationship." But when her cousin calls her with the news that she's dying and wants Tamar to plan the funeral, she's shocked but is willing to drop everything for her.

After a horrendous storm, Gemma finds a young boy and his little sister walking on the side of the road. She takes them in, and quickly falls in love with the orphaned siblings. But when Gemma contacts Social Services to try to become their foster mother, she's told a white woman cannot foster African-American children.

In the midst of these trials, Jack and Rocky are trying to plan their wedding. The entire town comes together to lend a helping hand.

Though the residents of Henry Adams face seemingly insurmountable obstacles, each of them will discover that family comes in many forms, especially during the most trying of times.

The storylines, dialogue and character profiles are rich as usual. This installment in the Blessings series has twists galore! Won't spoil it here but know my reactions reminded me of my grandmother's to what many called the "stories" on television. I admit it, I'm emotionally involved. The writing provides wonderful depictions of what folks do at their human worst and what most of us hope we would do at our best. As the author reminded us in this installment, "be kind over being right," is the goal. Best of all is that she filled in some details about the characters from the historical novels. Thanks Ms. Jenkins!

I wish this series can be made into a movie. I just love these books

Black history hallmark movie.

This is one of the best in the series..previous books have not taken the time to update more than one character... Not here, more like a screenplay.. I am definitely moving to Henry Adams!

The old Ms. Jenkins is back!

It's wonderful to listen to a book told by a griot. A griot always has you leaning forward living out the lives in the story you're listening to. Beverly Jenkins is a great griot. The tales she weaves are not predictable. They are realistic and relatable. The conversations are conversations that I might have. I appreciate how Beverly Jenkins respects the intelligence of her readers.

Loved the story but was challenged by the performance. Not sure what changed since this actor has narrated previous books.

Loved the story!

Would you consider the audio edition of Chasing Down a Dream to be better than the print version?

I love this series, but was sad at the change of narrator from the earlier books. Another sweet blessings story with great characters.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator can't do male voices. It really took away from the story itself because they sounded so fake.

Change of narrator for series.

Love her stories, wishing I could visit Henry Adams or a place like it. Can't wait for the book!!

Keep them coming

Great story line

I don’t know what happened but this was the worse performance of the series. Too much hesitation and dead space.
