About this listen

Beverly Jenkins enthralls romance listeners once again with Midnight - a heart-soaring African American historical romance novel set during America’s turbulent Revolutionary War.

In a time of peril, she fears nothing - except the forbidden passions of her heart.

In Boston, revolution is in the wind - yet none would ever suspect Faith Kingston of treason. But under cover of darkness, the beautiful daughter of a Tory tavern owner becomes the notorious spy “Lady Midnight”, passing valuable secrets to the rebels. Dedicated to fighting British tyranny, she’ll let nothing distract her - until a dark, mesmerizing stranger enters her life.

A reckless, worldly adventurer, Nicholas Grey has returned to troubled Massachusetts seeking revenge for the death of his rebel father. He suspects a local innkeeper, but it’s the man’s breathtaking, ebony-skinned daughter who has truly captured his interest. Nicholas burns for the sensuous, secretive lady - and Faith cannot mask her own blazing desires. But when destiny unites their causes, the passion that draws Midnight into Nicholas’ arms is as dangerous as it is glorious - and it could spell disaster for them both.

Excellent story

Beverly Jenkins never misses. She makes you fall in love with the characters. The interweaving of actual historical events makes the stories even more real. When you are done reading her tales, it’s like you will miss a lifelong friend. Kudos for Midnight. Excellent.

Beautiful Love Story

I loved this story and most because it was back in the colonial days which I love to read about black heroes back then because I know there were many. This was so relaxing that I went to the garden, sat in a rocker bench and read away, so worthy of a read.

Historical romance with spies and the revolutionary war!

Midnight is a historical romance from Beverly Jenkins that takes place during the Revolutionary War! This cover is absolutely stunning and I had a great time with this read. Queen Bev always adds so much rich history into her reads and the balance with the romance is always so well done. I’ve read all of her historical romances now and I’m still just always in such awe of her craft!

Faith Kingston is 26 and lives in Boston with her father when the story starts in 1775. After her mother’s death when she was just 8, Faith was raised by her loyalist father. At night, Faith works with a group of rebel spies and she’s known as “Lady Midnight”. Nicholas Grey comes back to Boston for his father’s death and ends up running into Faith and her father. Their dads were friends growing up but then became enemies at some point. His father worked secretly with the rebels and Nicholas ends up taking over his father’s work as well and will be working alongside the mysterious Lady Midnight. Things are also complicated because Nicholas is convinced that Faith’s father played a part in his father’s arrest and eventual death. When Faith’s dad ends up kicking her out, she and Nicholas decide to marry!

I loved seeing the development of Nicholas and Faith’s relationship, their friendship and eventual marriage. He spoils her and takes her on a shopping spree, treats her to things she deserves in life and hadn’t been given, and supports her wanting to start a bread baking business. Faith was a strong heroine, Bev’s writing sells me on spy storylines, and I just really liked this timeframe for this story.

great historical Fiction

wonderful fast moving story of family conflict, love, and redemption. The bravery and genorosity of people of the race is highliighted. I have read little about black rebels during the Revoulution. Tis was very well done.
