Publisher's summary

Audiobook four of the Ciaphas Cain series.

Listen to it because:

It's a tale of Cain alone (well, except for Jurgen, but he hardly counts), surrounded by enemies and desperate for a good cup of tanna tea....

The story:

Once again, reluctant hero Commissar Cain is catapulted into glory in the fourth instalment of this tremendously popular series. Escaping from a disastrous space battle, the commissar and his malodorous sidekick Jurgen crash-land behind enemy lines. Even the sly Cain can't avoid a straight fight this time, as the only way out is to round up what few troops they can find and fight their way back to safety. Unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of barbaric alien orks stand in their way.

Now to wait for the next one.

I love the Cain series, my favorite of the 40k series. They are all excellent books and listens. A great starting place for anyone interested in the universe too.

I actually read this one many years ago. I didn't mind listing to it again. Cain is a nice fun break from the more heavier books of eshinohorn

Make this a movie…. No seriously

This ‘rise from the ashes’ tale is one of the best of the Cain storys there is to my knowledge. The climatic ending, excellent.

Excellent prequel

A wonderful story about the campaign that made Cain a household name, despite his so called self preservation, and cowardice, he is a lot braver than he gives himself credit for

Stephen Perring's voice

I love Ciaphas Cain books. The characters, both major and minor, are incredibly alive. I want to know more about them, or rather Cain's perspective on them.
At any rate, Mr. Perring's voice is so damn sexy, that if he ever comes out with a 32 hour reading of a phone book in urdu, I'd happily purchase it.

Cain and Jurgen are in love.

Cain sounds a lot of time with Jurgen in this one, and our smelly boy gets to show off his anti ork fighting knowledge. Very fun.
