About this listen

I never thought I'd be singing happy birthday to myself in a dungeon. And yet when a sinfully sexy demon crashes happy hour, that's exactly what happens. He’s known as the Lord of Chaos, and he’s mistaken me for my succubus doppelgänger.

Happy birthday to me.

When he tastes my blood, he finally understands I’m mortal. And I realize we have something in common: we both crave revenge. So we make a deal: I can stay in the forbidden city to hunt for my mom's killer. In return, I’ll help him get the vengeance he craves. I just have to pose as a sexy succubus. One problem—he's my number one suspect.

And that’s increasingly hard to remember as he teaches me my role: seduction. With each heated touch I drift further into peril. And if I fall under his seductive spell, death awaits me.

Featuring Laura C. Harris, Gabriel Michael, Nhea Durousseau, Shanta Parasuraman, Wyn Delano, Bradley Foster Smith, Colleen Delany, Daniel Llaca, Elena Anderson, James Konicek, Karen Novack, Ken Jackson, Matthew Pauli, Michael John Casey, Zeke Alton, Richard Rohan, Scott McCormick and Yasmin Tuazon.

Critic reviews

"Laura C. Harris takes on the role of mortal Rowan--aka Mortana, the succubus--in this full-cast performance.... Listen carefully for sounds of beating wings interspersed with fire magic." (AudioFile)

It’s an interesting story, but it just feels rushed

The concept of story is very intriguing, but the way that the story itself is executed, feels very rushed. In One chapter you could be talking about a trial or an event or act, that might feel like it should take a few chapters to complete, or the very least a chapter to get to but in the very next chapter it’s wrapping up completely.

Not great.

- Dialog performance was good
- Narration performance was poor. I honestly thought it was computer generated
- Story was OK, but very cheesy and loaded with plot holes. I groaned at several moment

So it has been years since I last read a C.N. Crawford book, and I have no clue why that is now. This book is so absolutely epic that I cannot put into words how amazing it is! I seriously need to know what happens in book two ASAP! The world building alone is astounding, add in the epic characters & you have the recipe for an epic book.

The twists and turns that this book takes had me guessing at what will happen next. Rowan is a human that is forced into the wood of demons, all because she looks like the sworn enemy of Orion. She uses this opportunity to find out more about the demon who killed her mother years earlier.

Rowan holding her own as a human amongst demons is so awesome to see! This girl is so creative & I have a serious woman crush on her. The chemistry between her and Orion is so hot, but this is a slow burn, and I cannot wait to see it combust between these two.

Definitely a book to listen too and I cannot wait for book two!

love COTR?

if you loved court of thorns and roses I def think you will like this. it's got fun narration mixed with some healthy "will they or won't they?" mixed with an interesting world with lots of demons and magic.
the narration is perfect and the end will leave you wanting for the next book. I hate cliffhangers but this is still worth a credit!

a waste of my time

Poorly narrated and juvenile writing. I couldn't focus on the story because the writing style wasn't enjoyable.

I don't like it

I didn't like romanticized fiction. if you want to hear about people turning each other on, maybe it's for you.
