About this listen

Nadine is the only witch of her kind. With unique powerful abilities, she's a prime contender to sit on the witch's council, yet she's anything but welcome. A haunting family curse threatens to force her out of her magical college, and revealing her greatest secret may lead to the destruction of her people.

Lucas is the Reaper's Apprentice, the only warlock of his generation destined to ferry the souls of the dead. Accepting his dark gift is as brutal as investigating the coven's mysteries, from finding missing children to exposing the culprit behind a dangerous brew. He's prepared to fight the darkness alone, until he receives a warning beyond the grave from Nadine's mother.

Magic is disappearing from the town, and fear is causing the coven to turn against their own. Nadine and Lucas agree to come together to restore the coven's magic, but the priestesses that rule their coven have other plans....

Great story, poor narration

Love this book and all the connected series but why do they have two male narrators and none female when half the characters (at least) are female ? The female impressions are barely tolerable but it’s such a good story I just tried to ignore it..

LOVE

I wish the next book was available in the series as I listened to these in only a couple days. This is part of an omnibus that you should definitely not miss out on!!!

Awesome!!

Can't wait for more!! Wonderful world building and character building. Struggling with the weakness of the main characters turning it into strength at times, but overall awesome coming of age story lines. Romance is good and friendships are real! Truly well written and narrated!

Started Slow

I was not sure about this series I appreciate that it has real life problems like depression and other chronic illnesses. But the teenage angst was a lot to deal with. As the series progressed the murders were not what I expected (witches burning witches in the name of justice?) but the characters were desensitized by it , I found it a little disconcerting. After book 3 I have to see how the story ends. Lucas’ rendition of Talia’s voice is awful and I don’t understand why. He literally sounds like a man. Anyway so far so okay I have hope for the next part

The really really really bad voice work and terrible dialog.

Literally couldn’t listen to this. The dance scene was when i tapped out. The voice work just sucked. I own over 1600 audible books. This one is unique. I have never recoiled from an audio book before. Its that bad.

Did the writer ever attend college?

first the male speaker should not be doing female voices it come of as an old woman every time. but then at no point in this story was I ever immersed. the sheer amount if fighting where some how not one staff member can add 1+1 and make 2. and nobody does interviews to find out what happened? they don't see the same 2 girls fighting and no consequences. someone gets so beat up they can't move for days but vandalism is what causes someone to be expelled? someone gets poisoned where staff and medical teams are involved with a clear culprit and no consequences? a killer and nobody suggests going to the nonmagical police? this feels more like someone who was homeschooled made a story about what they thought school was like rather than a real life example. and the magic system... not well thought out.

Dear god the narrators!!😵‍💫

The narration is the worst I’ve heard so far. Have these guys never actually listen to a female talk? I’m appalled on behalf of female kind at the ridiculous performance of the female characters. Especially the one who portrays Lucas, never planning to listen to another story performed by him again.
