About this listen

Aleena Moore is haunted by Jared Holt. It's been six years since she's seen her brother's best friend, the self-destructive bad boy she secretly loved in high school. As the years pass, she knows it's time to move on. Time to decide between a practical nursing degree and her true dream as an artist. Time to get over Jared and give another guy a chance…Just when she opens her heart to her friend, Gabe, Aly returns home to find Jared sleeping on her couch. The teenage boy she loved has grown into a man she can't resist. Covered in tattoos and lost in rage, he's begging to be saved from his demons - the memories of the day he destroyed his family. As the two reconnect, their passion is hot enough to torch Aly's judgment. But can she risk her future for a man who lives on the edge of destruction?

Beautifully written story

What did you like best about this story?

I like Aly's relationship with Jared when they were growing up. How she always loves him, even when she was young.

Any additional comments?

The concept of this story is not something new but it was beautifully written. This story is about second chance. I could feel Jared's guilt and heartache. I was so sad for his lost but also how he blamed himself. I could feel the chemistry and love between Jared and Aly. I thought the relationship they had growing up was very special. Made me wish that I have someone like Jared growing up; someone who always be there for me and stood up for me.

I look forward to the next book. I hope that Jared learns to let go of the past and guilt.

Full of angst

This was a really angst packed story. The hero is full of self hate because of an accident when he was 16. The heroine has loved him since she was a little girl and he's been gone for years, without anyone knowing where he was. He comes back and they are instantly attracted to each other, though he fights loving her because he feels he doesn't deserve to be happy. Good ending and great narration!

Loved it

I honestly don’t know how she does it, but so far, she has hit the mark every time. Some of her stories are consistent in themes (the female lead often seems to be pregnant by the end of it, and the male leads are always running from something in their past that is usually dark but real life situations), but the way she weaves it all into these stories is just incredible. Jackson usually always gets me with one detail at the end that I didn’t see coming and this story was no different. Narration was good. I liked the male narrator better than the female; something about her narration voice in everything I’ve listened to with her narrating bothers me, but she does well on the dialogue for each different character.

On the Fence

Still not quite sure how I feel about this book. It had a lot of potential with some really emotional and touching moments. It didn't quite get there for me. Jared is a seriously tortured character and I think it took too long for me to understand what his exact issue was. I'm not sure if maybe I zoned out because it was hard to keep up with the back and forth between past and present. At the end, my heart broke for him. He is well and truly damaged and no one even tried to help him as he spiraled.

I guess I liked Aly. I didn't dislike her and I liked that she never judged Jared by anything in his past. She reached out to him with open arms and understanding. I liked their history together of her always tagging along with her brother and Jared. He was always looking out for her. I thoroughly enjoyed their connection.

I really liked Tanya Eby as Aly. Todd Haberkorn has this great deep voice that truly spoke like Jared with how tortured is character is. It was a very enjoyable listen.

It was slow

I felt like the story between the 2 main characters dragged on while repeating the same stuff over and over.

Beautiful story

I got sucked into this tale immediately. I adore stories where the characters have known each other their whole lives. I also love stories about forgiveness because it is such a difficult thing to do. I thought the constant flashbacks were amazingly done.

I wish the male narrator would have done all the male voices and the female narrator did all the girl ones. I don’t know why so many audiobooks do it this way, it just is not as authentic. Todd Haberkorn did a phenomenal job voicing Jared. His voice was so sexy and brooding, so full of pain. I felt that Tanya Eby did all of the voices great but the narration itself was so robotic. Plus, Allie was supposed to be 20 and the voice sounds 45.

(Spoilers) I absolutely hated the “accidental pregnancy” twist. This beautiful story had enough going on for it that it didn’t need that bs. The twist that Allie was the one who saved him when they were teens was so overwhelming beautiful, I wish it had just ended like that. In my head, I edit out the pregnancy garbage. I guess I see what the writer was trying to do since Jared was so destructive and now he is “creating” instead of destroying. But what he created with Allie was enough for me.
