About this listen

For a friend, family member, or coworker with autism, communication can be challenging. But Connecting with the Autism Spectrum can help you find common ground with expert tips and helpful insights about talking (and listening) to neurodiverse adults so you can make your interactions more transparent, meaningful, and rewarding for all.

This comprehensive guide is a trusted source for understanding neurodiversity that features a brief introduction to the autism spectrum. It also provides easy communication strategies like active listening and positive encouragement as well as steps to avoid misunderstandings by teaching how to recognize biases and correct them.

  • Situational success: Find the right information for various situations and settings, including school, work, and social relationships.
  • A sensitive tone: Get valuable information from a clear, honest point of view that does not seek to "cure" or manipulate.

Short, but it's always helpful to better understand the needs of other people. Some recommended accommodations seem broadly useful for many people.

I really liked being able to see all of the little details through the eyes of a neurodivergent individual. I am an autism teacher and it gave me a lot of insight into what my students may be going through that I wouldn’t understand otherwise, and how I can be a better teacher. To the author, thank you for taking on this endeavor. The more we can learn about each other, the better we can bridge the divide of neurotypical and neurodiversity thinking.

Great advice and unique perspective!

This book changed my life. I have a son who was diagnosed with Autism in Middle School. I cannot articulate how afraid I was for my son’s future. My fear was created mostly by my lack of understanding how to communicate with him. Now I understand and I have renewed hope in my ability to help him reach his potential. I can’t wait for the next book. Maybe a book focused on getting through a love relationship?

I want more books like this!
