About this listen

In the real world, people on the autism spectrum need the same kinds of day-to-day skills everyone else needs to be functional! It's true. No matter how high-functioning children with autism or Asperger's may be or may become, they function better as adults if they've had the chance to learn basic skills, from being on time to good personal hygiene. But many reach adulthood without those skills. Enter Jennifer McIlwee Myers, aspie at large. Coauthor of the groundbreaking book Asperger's and Girls, Jennifer's personal experience with Asperger's syndrome and having a brother with autism makes her perspective doubly insightful. Jennifer can show you how to:

  • Create opportunities for children to learn in natural settings and situations
  • Teach vital skills such as everyday domestic tasks, choosing appropriate attire, and being polite
  • Help individuals on the spectrum develop good habits that will help them be more fit and healthy Improve time management skills such as punctuality and task-switching
  • And much more!

Jennifer's straightforward and humorous delivery will keep you eagerly turning the page for her next creative solution!

I work in schools & I'm always looking for a passable book to help people understand the students we work with- they are difficult to find. Nothing brings as many questions from parents or staff as much as autism because there are very few set rules or answers This book is friendly, enjoyable, and a great resource. Much more than information- insightful. I will be happily recommending it to anyone who will listen.

Excellent Resource

I really enjoyed this book. The author mostly recounts personal experiences and writes them in a light-hearted and fun way. The narrator has a great choice but the s-sounds and occasional pops of her p-sounds is a little annoying.

Easy Listen and very helpful

This book starts out with a warning that it is written in conversation language, which I found made it easy to relate to, learn from, and generally enjoy. It’s a great book and I’m thankful to have found it.

Practical and easy to understand

So many books are NT's writing to NT's on how to rise their ND child. I'm autistic and had many experiences that the author had with no diagnosis and lost in school. I don't want want kids to have that experience and love these life skills tips to navigate life. I went to college knowing how to not knowing how to make boxed Mac & Cheese and not knowing how to clean, do laundry, massively confused on personal hygiene and hid in my dorm room. I'm amazed that I'm still alive. I want my kids to know the basics to take care of themselves. thanks for the support from this author.

Great for an aspie raising 2 aspie kids.
