Elminster Returns!

Elminster Must Die is the debut 4th edition appearance of one of the Forgotten Realms world’s most iconic characters, written by the creator of the original Forgotten Realms campaign setting. An instant classic, and a must-listen for every Realms fan.

When the goddess of magic was murdered, Elminster’s world shattered. Once the most powerful wizard in the world, immortal, beloved of the goddess of magic, and the bane of villainy, he is now a tired old man. He is powerful but mortal, and with all the enemies a man who makes a habit of saving the world tends to accumulate. To make matters worse, Elminster has needs - feeding powerful magic items to the Simbul, his lover, is the only thing that keeps her sane - but their increasingly risky collection leads his enemies right to him.

Mystra's chosen never give up

Elminster reduced to a state he can barely keep going on yet still he strives to meddle for the good of the realms while evil seemingly has gained dominion. And yet, dare ye underestimate him?

Old school almost cool

Sure, Ed Greenwood was one of the progenitors of the Dungeons & Dragons world. Yes he created many a character and storyline in that realm. Is it a fun read? No. It's a bunch of old white people (nobles) yelling at each other and exclaiming their rights to their nobility. FFS grow up. Such tired and old ways of thinking but I guess that's the birthplace of possibility.

The narrator was painful to endure, reminding me of watching educational films in high school in the 60's. Yes it's a deep commanding voice, but it just doesn't fit the characters or the mood the author is trying to create.

Would I buy and listen to a 2nd book in this series? Oh hell no. Am I glad I listed to this classic D&D story? Sure.

Elminster Audible

I have read 3 Elminster books and I love them all. Ed Greenwood is a wonderful writer and I will always want more of his readings. I just finished Elminster must die Audible and I think I may have to listen to it again. I'm afraid I may have missed some parts so some of the story didn't make since to me. At the same time I think I may have missed a book. Some of the characters I didn't know who they were. I didn't know he had a daughter and I didn't know he had a girlfriend. I have some reading to do. Over all I love this book!!
