About this listen

NSA agent Dr. Emma Thorpe is tasked with putting together an off-the-books team of elite cyber warriors to combat computer hackers who threaten national security. She's given carte blanche to recruit the best of the best. There's only one caveat. The threat won't be resolved by following the rules, so she must find a way to recruit Paxton James, gray hat hacker extraordinaire. But the elusive, sexy-as-sin Paxton is in an Indonesian jail. And she's there because one of Emma's colleagues double-crossed her.

Paxton's willing to deal with the devil himself to get out of the hell she's in. It doesn't hurt that the devil's assistant comes in such an appealing package. Dealing with their mutual attraction is one thing. But learning to trust is critical. Especially if Emma and Paxton are to survive long enough to prevent zero day.

pretty darn good

The characters are likeable and we'll devloped. It would be nice if this was first in a series, and the story is unique enough to support another book. If you are a Kay Scarpetta fan, you will find the main character similar to "Lucy".

The story keeps you engaged and it progresses quickly. The narration is pretty good and much better than in other books narrated by the same person.

Excellent

I really enjoyed the story. It was good to listen to a well written story about lesbians with exciting carreers along with a love story. It had depth. I like it. Also enjoyed the Narrator's voice. Very pleasing.

should have been much better

Many spoilers ahead. this story had all the elements of a great spy vs spy story. The main character was wounded and driven and brilliant. My qualms had to do with Emma and how the author handled her character and since hers was a very important part it understandably brought the whole experience down.
There's a part where Pax is missing Emma and one of her thoughts is how wonderful a sounding board she is. Since when? Emma is more or less a non charecter. She literally has zero input in any given situation. Any idea she has is instantly shot down by everyone. She's supposed to be the leader and yet she doesn't lead. Pax does everything for her and when Emma gets upset about being shut out of everything pax just throws a fit and claims Emma doesn't trust her.... What does that have to do with anything that is happening at that moment? Emma is presented as a strong intelligent woman who has years of experience leading her group and yet she passes the reigns over with a whimper and a pout then ignores it. by far the most frustrating dynamic I've ever endured.

narration very bad.

The story line might be good but could not get past the very bad narration. So I really don't know.

Painfully simplistic storytelling

It was very much, "Character A went from point A to point B. Character B sighed."

There was little to no characterization; most of them were Mary Sues.

There were also contradictions. Characters would indicate they had difficulty trusting, and in other instances would immediately divulge their life story.

This is definitely a story I would categorize as a hurt/comfort slash fiction. Most fan fiction I've read online for various shows is better written. It could be that the writer of this book is unused to developing their own characters.

If you're in the mood for a soap opera, have a soft spot for Mary Sues, and have an incredible aptitude for suspension of disbelief, knock yourself out.
