About this listen

ACFW Book of the Year Award winner Kim Vogel Sawyer is acclaimed for her soul-stirring fiction. In this enthralling tale, schoolmarm Edythe Amsel arrives in 1882 Nebraska with lofty goals. Soon her teaching methods—and her views on women’s rights—ruffle feathers. Only Joel Townsend speaks in support of the teacher who’s won the affection of his nephews. But when Miss Amsel reveals her deepest beliefs, he can no longer defend her—even if she’s stolen his heart.

The narration was superb! She nailed the many voices required. The story became alive because of her.

Courting Miss Amsel was a delightful story and the narrator was fantastic. She had a different voice for each character and I love it when a narrator does this. I could picture each character in my mind just by the way the narrator changed her voice. Looking for more audio books with Laurie Birmingham as narrator.

Wonderful book.

Another beautiful story by a gifted author.
Set in 1882 Nebraska, Miss Amsel finds herself on the wrong side of the parents when she shows that she has different teaching methods than previous teachers.
She is a woman who believes women have rights just as men do and this does not bode well with many of the townsmen.
Laurie Birmingham did a first rate job narrating this wonderful story.

Good story

Would you consider the audio edition of Courting Miss Amsel to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, but I am sure I would have enjoyed putting my personal spin on how the characters may have looked, their mannerism and speech patterns..

What was one of the most memorable moments of Courting Miss Amsel?

When she bravely risked her life to save a student.

Have you listened to any of Laurie Birmingham’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't.. I enjoyed the narration however.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well no, but I didn't want it to end.

Any additional comments?

I love the strength of dedication , moral christian character of the young teacher and her friend in this story. They made wise decisions for the most part based on God's words.
